... To raise awareness of the damage caused by some exfoliate beauty products

Hi MNers, You may already know this, because this forum is full of well-informed people, but just to raise awareness that some exfoliates contain inert polymer ie plastic beads (J&J, Unilever products for example).

The damage to the environment is caused because these micro-beads get washed down into the water-course, into our oceans, ingest by marine life which is bad for them, and equally bad for humans if we then eat cod, tuna, mussels. It's bad for everyone!

All I'm suggesting is please think twice about buying these products, if we all stop the demand, it will stop the supply.

Thanks for reading, if you can spread the word to all your family and friends, we can collectively make a huge difference. I know we have US and Ozzie friends on here, so we can spread the message around the globe in the time it takes to say

"Balls to Micro-beads"

Thanks, OP, this is really important. At the very least they should be really clearly labelled.

I think I'm be emailing Soap & Glory with either my praise or blame, once I've discovered what's in their Scrub Of Your Life!

Livid - thank you and I agree with you that the beauty industry doesn't have a very pretty face, does it!

Just to let anyone who is interested know, I used the "Report" option to send a note to MNHQ (mentioning Whabylon who has also got in touch), to see how we could go about a MN campaign, to see if there could be something more permanently featured on the site, to increase awareness and ask people to spread the word. I'll keep everyone updated - maybe they will do their thing of posting directly on this thread, or else I gave them my email, so either way, we'll keep fingers crossed.

I thought that those hand made blocks of soap with sawdust mixed in them were for exfoliating ..... Or was it not sawdust?

daisychain01 · 20/06/2014 12:07

SmallPress that's a great idea, it is only through consumer pressure that these companies sit up and take notice - kick'em where it hurts, on their bottom line Smile

Its fine on my laptop? Can C&P if others want to see it

goodasitgets · 20/06/2014 14:44

The dermalogica one is fine as far as I'm aware - it's actually a powder, you can't feel any beads etc in it, it's like (can't describe!) a sort of silky flour Smile

It you could C&P the main paragraphs, eyelet that would be great, Im not sure if maybe my work laptop works in weird ways!
