AIBU to think there should be an 'edit post' facility on Mumsnet?

At least for the OP. Even if the edit preserved the initial post via a strikethrough strikethrough option, so posters could read the initial post and the edited version.

So often I see OPs being pulverised by Johnny Come Latelies to a thread, when OP has long accepted they were wrong and done a complete 180 degree about turn on their original position.

But latecomers to the thread often seem to read only the OP and - if you're lucky - first few pages, before getting stuck in. I'm probably as guilty of it as anyone and it's totally understandable with threads that run to a gazillion pages.

I think a nice little 'I surrender' flag would make a good addition to the OP.

So AIBU? Grin

I'd like this. Also the quote function mentioned.

Oops sorry my brain melted and forgot how to bold!

You have to do something special to highlight your own/OPs posts? It was just there when I signed up Confused

Super helpful if a thread has already exploded by the time you reach it. Just switch to 100 messages (should be the default!), scan through the green boxes to see where the OP is up to.

HOW do you highlight OPs posts??

At the top of the page beside the word Talk there is a down array.
Click that and there are a number of options, one of which is "Customize".

This gives you a number of options such as highlight all posts by OP in a particular colour and highlight your own posts in a colour.

This is very useful as sometime in a very long thread I will sometimes skim most posts and just read what the OP has said. That way you always know when the OP has graciously admitted they were wrong or has changed their mind.

I almost never post on a thread that has become very long because, as Bearbehind said, it is very unlikely by that stage you can add anything that hasn't already been said. If I do post I will at least read all of the OPs posts

I disagree about being able to edit and have a strike through facility as I think it would just make reading threads very confusing. However, I share your annoyance when someone has just barged in and not at least read all of what the OP said and posts something that is now totally irrelevant.

there is a down arrow not array.
Blast if only I could edit that typo!!!

Willow2017 · 26/10/2017 14:03

Definately.

My phone has a mind of its own and touch screen is very sensitive so can post accidently before
checking spelling. Having a couple of minutes to edit would be great.

As would be a quote button.

Yes I would like an edit feature.
