To let my 6 year old stay up to watch the football on Thursday?

Just that really. I am aware that as issues go this is not a big one, but I'm having an indecisive moment! He is really into his football, and it is obviously an important game. He is normally in bed by 8ish, so may well be a little grumpy at school on Friday as a result of being up until 10 or so to watch the game. But then it is only one day and he'll have the weekend to recover. So am I?

I don't see the problem.
It's not like you keep him up every night and it is a special treat.

Ilovehamabeads · 18/06/2014 17:36

Let him stay up. My ds (6) will also be staying up despite me knowing he'll be a horror on Friday because of it. He's excited and its only once every 4 years.

MrsKCastle · 18/06/2014 18:01

My DD1 is almost 6 and will be staying up. Or, more realistically, she'll be bundled up on the sofa to watch for as long as she wants to until she nods off.

Bowlersarm · 18/06/2014 18:05

Let him stay up.

It will be memorable for him, and he's only got to get through Friday until the weekend.

KittyandTeal · 18/06/2014 18:06

If it helps I'm a year 5 teacher and am fully expecting at least half of my class to be tired and grumpy on fri after being up late watching football :)

Happydaysatlast · 18/06/2014 18:07

Of course why not. If they squabble though it's one chance and them bed.

If the 5 year old isn't interested and starts the fight just put him to bed but let your 6 year old stay up.

ICanSeeTheSun · 18/06/2014 18:09

I would.

FloozeyLoozey · 18/06/2014 18:20

Mumsnet decrees that all children must be tucked up in bed by 7pm lest their children die of school related exhaustion/over tiredness the next day.

Lilaclily · 18/06/2014 18:45

I'm not sure a group match will be memorable !
A semi or final maybe !

Lilaclily · 18/06/2014 18:46

Memorable for being the end of this years world cup for England maybe Grin

JohnFarleysRuskin · 18/06/2014 20:16

Hmm Maybe the answer is to get someone else to look after them from 3-7 on Friday :)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/06/2014 09:46

Have you decided yet OP? I would emphasise it's a special treat and any silliness he'll be off to bed.

our au pair is Spanish...she's not quite recovered from last Friday yet...

Oh dear in that case she must have had a tough time watching yesterday MezleyM.

Flexibilityiskey · 19/06/2014 10:36

Yes I'm going to let him, I don't think he'd ever forgive me if I didn't let him stay up for it! Plus DH is away this week, so if DS is in bed I'll be watching on my own, which just wouldn't be right. Fingers toes and everything else crossed for a win!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 19/06/2014 11:40

Let him watch, it is only one day and England will probably be on their way home next week Wink

ChickenFajitasAndNachos · 19/06/2014 11:44

Yes I would. Teeth and PJ's at half time and them bed by 10pm.

Flexibilityiskey · 19/06/2014 21:50

I wish I'd sent him to bed at 8 now! Sad

I was just thinking about you OP. And wasn't sure whether we had discussed how he would sleep if we lost and he was upset.
