Its not even hot outside, 15 degrees but its still hotter in the sun than in the office.

Have to sit with a jumper on and coat on my legs on a perfectly nice day. Can't be good for the body all this ariticial stale cold air then going outside to warm up.

Does anyone else have these problems?

The same office they put at boiling hot in the winter and that also disagrees with my body

Really? Are you leaving?

Chottie · 19/06/2014 14:52

Luckily I sit by the window and I like the window open. I used to work in an office with only one window which opened (the others were broken!) and the person who sat nearest to it, would never, ever allow it to be opened. It was just awful......

StealthPolarBear · 19/06/2014 21:18

Sorry op have you really quit yiur job over office temperature?

MsVenus · 19/06/2014 22:10

There are 3 menopausal women in my office so you can imagine what temperature the office is all year round. And if anybody dares to want to turn the ac off during December, well on your head be it.....

StarlightMcKenzie · 19/06/2014 22:13

Offices should be a bit warmer in summer than in winter as people are dressed in cooler clothes in summer and more likely to have thicker tops and tights etc. on in the winter.

Jelliebabe2 · 20/06/2014 00:07

I have the unfortunate his of being in a facilities department in a 20 plus year old building! We set the temp to run the building between 21 and 23 (sometimes its a bit out if this but not often) and we get it's too hot/cold every day! In general i would like to say cold person put a frickin jumper on/eat a decent dinner and you hot person.... Well you could drop a lb or two!

sashh · 20/06/2014 05:35

I'm like TheListingAttic
Where I'm currently working there is no aircon in the classrooms but there is in the computer rooms.

The aircon in the computer rooms is set at 23 degrees, you cannot change it but the students are complaining it is too cold. It was fine 3 weeks ago, it is the same temperature but because they are moving from hot to cool they think it is cold.

This is what annoys me in shared offices. The people who sit beside the window often seem to think that it's their decision as to whether the window is opened or closed. The entire room is affected so it should be an agreed decision.

I am the icy person. At home the central AC is set to 18c (I live in the desert) and at work I sometimes find my fingers are numb. But I don't share an office with anyone so it's ok.

limitedperiodonly · 20/06/2014 16:47

My office is cold and the natural and artificial lighting is set at the level where mild depression sets in and may becoming worse. It's not the greatest place I've ever worked.

At least I've found somewhere the temperature mostly suits me and have insisted on moving there.

Until I did that it was horrible coming to work recently in a dress and no tights because it's been so warm out, and then shivering in the office. I'd always take a jacket and would usually wear it inside and take it off to go home.

I was seriously considering a blanket for my knees until I found a warmish desk. I keep fluffy socks in the drawer FGS.

I'm truly not one of those people who wears stupid clothes in the middle of winter or breaks the ice on the Serpentine in winter for a 6am swim.

My office is strange. And I'm not just talking about the temperature.

StealthPolarBear · 20/06/2014 17:00

Has no one else noticed rhat the op rwsigned yesterday over this? Am I the only one who finds this odd

limitedperiodonly · 20/06/2014 17:10

No stealth because I'm self-absorbed, as you might know.

Does seem a bit odd/worrying.

Update OP?

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/06/2014 19:23

I have resigned over this. It isn't odd. If your working conditions are unbearable, you resign eventually.

twistedsista · 20/06/2014 19:46

I did hand in my notice. Then they promptly took the issue seriously and moved me and I withdrew it.

It may sound crazy to some, but 9 hours a day sat shivering, dry skin, dry eyes, sore throat, headaches and feeling rough every time I finish work. Theatre is only so long you can take that for! My desk was dodgy and no one would swap with with me.

Yes I may of looked like a crazy person, but I was in tears at how awful I felt after each day so couldn't of continued.

SoonToBeSix · 20/06/2014 20:23

Ideal room temp is 21 not 18!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 20/06/2014 20:25

Fresh crisp cool air is perfection so I have the windows open year round, regardless. I hate a stuffy workplace - it makes me feel ill being too hot.

Thankfully I work alone most of the day so can have a little icebox.

OP maybe add some layers under your clothes (vest, tights etc)

LadyNexus · 20/06/2014 20:26

Because all heat is HORRIBLE!!!!

Bloody awful, I hate it.

Even a slight increase makes me murderous.

(I'm nice honest Grin)

StarlightMcKenzie · 20/06/2014 20:28

Layers don't work unless your job is aerobic. Your fingers and nose turn blue and become non-functional.

EBearhug · 20/06/2014 20:29

We have two settings. Winter (boiling hot, lasts till about the end of May) and Summer (icy, till about the end of October.)
