To go to my EPU scan tomorrow....

....when I am being ill regularly?

Last week I had a threatened MC and they are not sure if the baby is still alive or not. So I have an EPU scan tomorrow morning to see.

This weekend I started feeling rather nauseous and today I've been quite ill. I do not know if this is normal pg-related nausea (in which case it is presumably fine) or a bug or something, in which case I shouldn't really go to a ward full of pg women.

I am obviously desperate to find out if there is a heartbeat and our EPU is so stretched that if I move tomorrow's appt I am unlikely to get another scan for about 7-10 days. But I don't want to be selfish. I cannot get in touch with the EPU tonight to check with them as they are unstaffed.

The sickness comes in waves about every half hour or so and is quite intense. I cannot keep down food or liquid. Wwyd in this situation?

RP I noticed on another thread you were in the family way (as DH keeps insisting on calling it Hmm ) and was going to give you a yell then, as I too am with child (another DHism) and it seems like only yesterday you and I were singing from the same song sheet on threads about when's the right time to start a family, if ever.

I'm really upset to hear you've been having MC worries, and I agree with the rest, from the experiences of friends and those on my antenatal thread it sounds to me like pg related sickness as opposed to anything catching. How selfless of you to consider the safety of others though when you have worries of your own.

How far along are you? I'll be thinking of you and hoping for good news Thanks

Hope you got to your scan and everything was ok.

RevoltingPeasant · 16/06/2014 16:17

Thanks all.

Oh, and hi Vivi and congrats - yes, I am also 'carrying life'

So I went and there was a heartbeat Grin I got all teary Blush but they must be used to that as they handed me a tissue right away.

Really glad I did go - although I did get put in an isolation room - for my own sanity!!!!

A lady had brought her charming 6-7yo daughter and grandparents along to the scan. Charming Daughter spent the entire time crawling around the perimeter of the room under the fixed chairs everyone else was sat on Hmm Then when the mum went for her scan CD started screaming 'MumMAY MumMAY MUMMAAAY' at the top of her lungs and physically trying to follow her mum into the scan room. She didn't stop for the remaining 10 minutes I was there, at which point the receptionist quietly found me and the 2 other ladies waiting different rooms to sit in 'to wait for the nurse'! I could have kissed her.

Anyhow, all's well that ends well - I am only 7+0 so no too complacent, but pretty happy. Thanks for hand-holding and good advice Flowers

Congratulations Smile

Lovely news, lets hope the MS is short and leaves you alone.

My fertility guy said once you get a heartbeat, you have an equal chance of a take home baby as anyone who is pg...

Sorry, I didn't word that well, but basically the 12 week mark isn't some magic "safe point" but it is usually the first time to see the heartbeat etc. So if you see it a heartbeat, baby has already done most of the "tricky" stuff and has made a beating heart, circulation system etc, which many early m/c haven't done. I don't know that is worded much better, but you are doing brilliantly and can sit back and relax for the next 9 months.

RevoltingPeasant · 17/06/2014 07:35

Yes Jenny that is totally clear and really good to hear :)

Oh OP I am so happy to hear this! Many congratulations, you must be relieved.
Top MS tip is sweets called 'gin-gins', from Holland & Barrett, they are intensely gingery (not made of gin, sadly), and got me through hot commutes on the stinky Central Line and horrific shower-induced nausea (the smell of the water Hmm). Good luck!

MrsMaturin · 17/06/2014 15:54

Glad to hear it went well and also that the receptionist had a bit of awareness that you didn't need to be subjected to screaming child. I'm sure the child's mum wanted the support of her parents but come on - you've got to have a bit of awareness of other people!
