To serve ham sandwiches and sausage rolls at a Peppa Pig 'themed' party?

DD was 2 yesterday, and will be having a wee birthday tea tomorrow, with a couple of family friends. I have made a cake with some very ropey looking Peppa characters on it, and got some other piggy stuff for the younger guests to take home with them.

However, DH was pondering whether a pig-themed party should be a pork-free affair, or whether we should go the whole hog (so to speak) and do bacon sarnies and cocktail sausages to guests.

WWYD, oh wise MNetters?

Peppa pig has Mummy Cow in it though apparently she kept her maiden name when she married Mr bull. Do they have any children?

This has to be the best IABU dilemma ever.....

Brilliant! This has made me giggle.

This reminds me of a conversation I had a couple of years ago in marks and spencers. Friend 1 is Muslim and picked up a pack of the 'veggie' percy pigs.

Friend 2: Can you eat those? I thought you didn't eat pig products.
Friend 1: It's ok these ones are veggie and have none of the gelatine.
Friend 2: Yeah but...they're shaped like pigs

Friend 1 killed herself laughing...Grin

Please, please if you do ham sarnies get little Peppa sarnie picks.

Go for it! My DS aged 2 is off to a Peppa Pig themed birthday this morning for a little girlfriend who is turning 2. I dare say sausage rolls and ham sandwiches will be on offer too!

Bacon sandwiches for adults is a must surely!

Will the children really notice? At age 2 there is not that much they will eat, though have known children who have loved smoked salmon with soft cheese. Just have a mixed selection, see what gets eaten.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 14/06/2014 09:43

Kveta yes! Wendy Wolf's family. I don't think Daddy Pig trusts them, somehow.

Going by this thread he is quite right tbf.

Kveta · 14/06/2014 10:19

well we have settled on ham sarnies and sausage rolls, as the cocktail sausages in the supermarket looked a bit tragic.

Mummy pig has daddy pig's hands though, which is my latest worry :o

Nice cake.

Mary7667 · 20/12/2021 20:40

I would probably avoid making ones with the shape of Peppas head. Might scare the kid. Grin

Bunnycat101 · 20/12/2021 21:25

My 5 year old will no longer eat ham because she loves pigs. Doesn’t stop her tucking into a bacon sandwich though…

Cake is very cute. Hope you all have a lovely time.

Tiramesu · 20/12/2021 22:17

Oh, the cognitive dissonance. I'm afraid I find this rather sad, rather than funny, but you'll quickly see why if you'd like to look at pig welfare in the UK and them being gassed at abbatoirs

Tania64 · 20/12/2021 22:29

I agree with Tiramesu. Also it's hypocritical of parents to feed their children the corpses of poor dead animals whilst at the same time promoting the said animals as cute little things to love.

Why why why has someone resurrected a thread from 2014 ffs.

BodgertheJogger · 20/12/2021 22:36

Cut up pieces of ham and make it into a 'Peppa Pig jigsaw puzzle' Grin.

DockOTheBay · 20/12/2021 22:39

The kid is 9 now 🙄

I did notice this is a zombie but your post reminded me of my practical food exam during my environmental health degree. We had to identify cuts of meat. The guest lecturer said 'can you put it back together?' So we did. A real life porcine puzzle Grin

Yeah, strange.

I went on safari in Africa once, and got served buffalo stew.
