To ask nursery to wash DD's feet?

I feel a bit ridiculous and PFB..,

My 15mo dd goes to a brilliant nursery, I've never had any reason to be unhappy with them. However over the last couple of weeks she's developed a weird rash on her feet which I just can't get to shift despite cream from the GP who was initially unsure if it was contact dermatitis or eczema. Because it's not improved with the cream, he thinks it's dermatitis and the thing causing must still be at large.

The only thing we can think of is it may be sand from when dd plays outside at nursery which then gets stuck in her shoes and socks. She has worn shoes and socks for a while but only recently started coming home with sand everywhere. She has not been at nursery this week and hasn't come into contact with sand and her feet have improved so much.

WIBU to ask that nursery wash her feet, change her socks and put her into slippers when she gets in from playing in the sand? I don't want to be all PFB but I also don't want to stop her playing with her friends in the sand or dictate what activities she can/can't do. And before you ask - yes, there is a lot of sand so it is a pretty significant thing.

If anyone has any alternative solutions then they'd be very welcome!!

This may not help but a sprinkling of talc removes sand from feet, even the tricky bits between toes! Just thinking it could be an alternative to asking them to wash her feet.

MrsWinnibago · 13/06/2014 11:21

I don't think that's too much to ask! Sand make skin sore. IF they're having it available then they must make sure such young DC are clean after being in it.

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 11:28

You could try those verruca socks you wear whilst swimming, they are quite tight so sand shouldn't be able to get in. That way the sand doesn't have to come into direct contact with her feet at all.

Or you could try pinks suggestion, failing that i don't think asking them to ensure her feet are free of sand is an unreasonable request.

Gen35 · 13/06/2014 11:36

I don't think it's unreasonable either, just ask them to do it

ikeaismylocal · 13/06/2014 11:39

I don't think it's unreasonable.

Could you put her in tights when it isn't so hot so the sand can't get on her feet in the first place?

Mim78 · 13/06/2014 11:43

You can't put verruca socks inside socks or shoes though - I've tried and it's unbearable as your feet can't breathe. For own contact dermatitis caused by leather allergy.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 13/06/2014 11:48

If they are as good as you say they are, I'm sure they would be happy to oblige. It's a medical condition.
They can either keep her in socks and wellies, or rinse off, dry her feet, apply some cream and stick her slippers back on.

It's tricky this time of year though if it is open doors all day and your DD can run in and out continuously.

I'd also ask them when the sand was last changed....... and if it is covered at night.

Thanks for the replies and it's good to know I'm not being too precious! Will try the talc thing first and see where we go from there. Ikea - I have a feeling she'd even get sand inside a pair of tights...she loves sand/water and pretty much ends up lying in it or trying to swim through it. She's the kind of child who you send with 4 changes of clothes and she'll still come home with a full bag of dirty clothes and wearing some spare things from nursery!

Yes tread I'll do that, thanks. The nursery is right in the middle of a field which is full of rabbits and although there's a huge fence round the garden I imagine lots of wildlife could gettin overnight.

Would it be worth getting her some crocs/jellies etc which would be easily cleaned if she's in and out all the time?

Something like this might work?

Yanbu, I think it's ok to ask. However she may be up and down a good few times so maybe too much washing would irritate her skin. Maybe provide some wipes?

Mim i meant for her to put them one whilst playing in the sand and then take them off once she's done and put her normal socks and shoes on Smile
