To think I'd get a lot more done if the shops opened at 9?

Why 9.30?
If I could get what I wanted I the way back from dropping ds at school, life would be a lot easier.
Wasted time waiting for shops to open, I don't want coffee thanks, I just want to get on with my day.

It's why I put everything off
I go home first, the sit down, or get I to what needs doing at home and I never get back out again to the shops

I can count 50 people waiting for the shops to open

Do you like rurally?

Our Tesco etc opens at 8am
So does M&S
The only thing that opens at 9.30 is HSBC once a week for a staff meeting

Mrsjayy · 13/06/2014 09:31

Where do you live our supermarkets open at 8 I think one a 7 and town opens at 9,

TurtleyAmazing · 13/06/2014 09:32

All shops near me are open by about 7:30/8:00.

can you not get everything you need on the way back from picking him up instead?

Seeline · 13/06/2014 09:32

I live in a major town on the edge of London and most of the shops in the town centre don't open until 10! M&S are earlier but that's it. I end up going to the out of town supermarkets for a lot of stuff now, but sometimes I would like to go and browse straight from school drop off and it's just not possible. I therefore end up living in supermarket brand clothing - OK it's cheaper but often not as nice.

ILoveWooly · 13/06/2014 09:35

Our local supermarkets are either 24hr or 8am opening but the town centre shops are mostly 9.30am.

Was going to ask if you were in or near London.

I work there and always forget how late things open, but they do stay open well into the evening. Where I live (approx 40miles west), shops open and close earlier which suits me better.

halcyondays · 13/06/2014 09:40

Dds' school is just across from a shopping centre. I'm far more likely to buy things from the shops that open at 9.00 than the ones that don't open until 9.30. There are always plenty of people about first thing in the morning.

Lilaclily · 13/06/2014 09:40

Oh yes I guess in London they open later because the stay open longer ?
I do find it annoying on a Sunday when things open 12-6 instead of 10-4
Useless when your toddler gets up at 6am

Chocotrekkie · 13/06/2014 09:46

Oh this bugs me too - but I keep forgetting and go out to them after the school run and end up sitting in the car waiting till they open cause it's not worth driving home again.

Annoys me when you get back from holiday or whatever at 5 on a Sunday and you can't get any shopping either - end up at the petrol station....

partialderivative · 13/06/2014 09:47

I used to work in a shop that opened at 9:00, it was dead until at least 10:00.

But then it was a decorating/diy shop and I doubt if you would be wanting to buy a couple of rolls of woodchip wallpaper on your way home from the school run.

PPaka · 13/06/2014 10:26

I live in London!
It's not the supermarkets, they open early.
Shopping centres, in particularly Wimbledon and Kingston

It's just so much easier to go when they first open, if I go later it takes twice as long as everywhere is busier. And traffic is worse, and I have to time it all right for the school run.
It's so annoying when you just have to pick up one or two things
I'm annoyed today

Everything including supermarkets open at 10am here (Korea) which is bloody annoying since both dc are dropped off at 8.30 and I have to collect the youngest at 12.

I'm feeling your pain
