To get the power back on. We have a power cut in my area apparently 300 homes affected. It's been off since 11;30 pm. Everything no sockets etc. The web site says they aim to have it back in by 3 am. I have a fully stocked fridge freezer. It's going to be damaged by then . Surely it can't take that long. It's the 21st century FGS.

Keep the doors shut, freezer will be good for up to 48 hours, and this website will tell you which food is safe to re-freeze, cook and freeze or needs binning.

greensnail · 13/06/2014 00:14

That's only 3.5 hours. Freezer will be fine, just keep it shut.

snice · 13/06/2014 00:17

its only a few hours-we lost power for 3 days last year. keep the fridge / freezer doors shut and use a torch

Arion · 13/06/2014 00:18

Actually, this website states food can keep frozen for up to 72 hours for a well stocked freezer with no power.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 13/06/2014 00:21

I expect they're going as fast as they can. These things take time. It's night time anyway, so just go to bed with a candle and a book.
Frozen food will be absolutely fine if you don't open the door.

Singlesuzie · 13/06/2014 00:23

Well what would you like them to do? Come round with generators for 300 households? Theyre fixing the problem as fast as they can. I'm sure they dont want to be up til 3am fixing it so they'll work fast.

macdoodle · 13/06/2014 00:24

Thanks didn't realise it would last so long. No WiFi either and not picking up any one else's routers, bed it is and hopefully all fixed when I wake up.

Freezer will be fine. We used to have awful glitchy bower at a breath of wind or thunderstorm anywhere in the county. 2-5 hour power cuts were very common.

It's better these days, once you could claim compensation they got their act together.

HerRoyalNotness · 13/06/2014 00:27

We had lightening strike our new office building and blow the transformers, they couldn't fix it until the next day, we all got to go home, yippee! Where I live now and also the last place, in bad storms we could lose power for 2weeks! One place in -30 the other +40. Be glad it's during the night and thank them in the morning when it's back on.

wobblyweebles · 13/06/2014 00:30

I thought you were going to say the power had been off for days, then you said 3.5 hours.

Sorry, I'm trying not to chuckle. Have you really never lost power for that long before?

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 13/06/2014 00:33

If you keep the freezer shut then it will be absolutely fine.

chocolatemademefat · 13/06/2014 02:54

Look on the bright side - your freezer will be fine for three and a half hours and it's bedtime anyway.

How charmed is your life that this bothers you?

They were all sitting around drinking tea and wasting time before fixing the problem. Alternatively, they were trying to fix it as quickly as possible Hmm

Andrewofgg · 13/06/2014 06:39

OP What is your house called? Entitled Towers?

Andrewofgg · 13/06/2014 06:40

If the guys (and I think it will be guys) working on it are within sight of your windows then once the power is up and running I hope someone will make a pot of coffee and take it to them.

DrFunkesFamilyBandSolution · 13/06/2014 06:40

You can always try & claim the cost of the food back off insurance if it's managed to ruin in 3 hours.

We live in the SE, a few years back someone tried to nick a shit load of cable & we ended up with no power for 4 days & didn't get a refund...

Did you mean 1130am?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 13/06/2014 06:42

OP do you have any concept of why there is/was a power cut? Or what's required to restore the power? Given that you feel the need to point out that there's no power in the sockets, I'm guessing not.

Your "FGS" has irritated me. Perhaps you could be grateful that you a) live somewhere where this is unusual and b) there are people willing and able to get out of bed and go out in the middle of the night to try and sort it out.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 13/06/2014 06:49

How very amusing. I am picturing Penelope Keith sitting pursed lips at this utter tragedy

Andrewofgg · 13/06/2014 06:52

Indeed, sharon, OP will be expecting the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Marines to muck in to get her power up and running.
