Was IBU to not move my car?

I parked on the road today in front of a van. I reversed back as far as I felt comfortable, then as I was getting my 7 month old DD out of her car seat I felt the car jolt. A woman had reversed her car into mine trying to park in front of me.
She got out and I said 'Excuse me you just hit my car'.
She replied "YES I know. You need to move your car back so I can fit my car in this space. You only need to move a few inches."
Her tone was 'well obviously, dear'.
I said Im sorry but there isn't enough room for me to reverse any further.
I could have moved about 4 inches back really, but then I would be bumper to bumper with the van behind and she would still be only mm away from my car.
I said 'If I do that I won't be able to get out.'
Her reply was "well i'm only going to be 2 minutes. You are being very selfish".

At that I just walked away. But now I feel quite guilty. I could have just moved a few inches to let her in. Parking spaces are hard to find in that area.
DH says he would have told the old bag to fuck the fuck off but I'm wondering if I was being selfish?

I'd play safe and report it bcos it is a hire car and you don't want any comeback. And you were NBU!

IrianofWay · 12/06/2014 15:46

"She wouldn't give me any details because she said she 'hadn't done anything'." Confused

She hit your car!

Sigyn · 12/06/2014 15:46

Oh yeah, the insurance details. Report her for that at least.

bigdog888 · 12/06/2014 15:47

I would have called the Police (non-emergency, obviously) and reported dangerous driving

Really? I'd expect the police to have laughed at you!

WooItsAGhostCat · 12/06/2014 15:49

Alpaca I think you are right. Now I'm a bit less suprised by the whole thing I'm beginning to think WTF? I would be mortified if I hit someone's car! Even if only lightly. I'm a bit paranoid about opening the doors too wide incase I leave a tiny mark on another persons car.
Good job I wasn't parked further back else I'd have shunted the van behind too!
OMG! I'm feeling angry now!
She also shouted something after me as I was walking down the road with DD and DS. Didn't catch what it was, but wasn't going to have an argument in the street anyway in front of the kids.
Stupid woman! She is actually a knob jockey!

Jeez, tell the hire company right now that your car got bumped and she refused to give you details! You do not want this coming back on you! The police would take it seriously as well tbh though is talk to the insurance company and see what they say.

PixieofCatan · 12/06/2014 15:51

Bigdog: actually they take this kind of thing really seriously...

Objection · 12/06/2014 16:01

She's lucky she didn't do that to me. My cars old and rusty. I may have accidently bumped her car on the way out, after all she could have parked a few inches forward. only half joking

TurtleyAmazing · 12/06/2014 16:07

have i got this right?

she hit your car and then refused to give you her insurance details because 'she hasn't done anything wrong'?

if that's the case then regardless of the lack of damage to the vehicle you need to report her. she sounds hazardous and probably shouldn't be near a car never mind trying failling to park one.

HauntedNoddyCar · 12/06/2014 16:12

I'd report it if only to get a reference number to cya with the hire company.

ajandjjmum · 12/06/2014 16:36

Report it to the non-emergency police to cover yourself.

Hopefully they'll have a quiet night, and have a little word with her about leaving the scene of an accident! (OK slight exaggeration, but she deserves it).
