to use afro products on my daughter's hair?

She is not at all Afro Caribbean but her hair us just as curly, and completely untameable. Her hair is fine though.

I have no idea what to do with it.

What do you think?

Do it - but some products may be too 'heavy' and try to avoid things with loads of chemicals! I'll try and link the stuf I use on my daughter's curly locks.

Also have you tried the 'curly girl method?' Google it on tips on how to manage curly hair - I rarely use shampoo on my dd's hair as it tends to dry it out too much - just wash with conditioner.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/06/2014 23:58

It depends on the product.

Joysmum · 12/06/2014 00:08

I never thought of doing that. Think I'll try that for my daughter, her hair is crinkly, not curly, and that might be helpful. Thanks for posting.

Curly Q milkshake is brilliant for fine curly hair

HeeHiles · 12/06/2014 00:16

This one is good

Too tired to think of the names of the other ones we have tried but will let you know tomorrow.

sauvignonblacks · 12/06/2014 00:21

I would avoid products with mineral oil in as these can be quite drying and can cause matting, there are some lovely products in the original sprout range, pricy but worth it IMO
Have you tried brushing it when damp applying product then plaiting before bed? Should be knot free by morning

HeeHiles · 12/06/2014 00:25

Oh and get a tangle teazer - my dd has tight corkscrew girls and it gets them knots out beautifully!

AnotherStitchInTime · 12/06/2014 00:28

I have mixed race children, dd2 has more fine caucasian type hair that is curly.

Soft free activator lotion and Organics Kids Shea butter lotion work well on her hair.

Dollybird86 · 12/06/2014 00:29

Rather than afro products try a brand called mixed chicks I think they do a children's range to much lighter less greasy and perfect for curly hair hth

Can I ask what you are using?

gobbynorthernbird · 12/06/2014 00:41

Go curly girl. No heavy products, and can be as cheap or spendy as your wallet allows.

Fideliney · 12/06/2014 00:51

I experimentally raid the afro section in sainsburys all the time. No one's ever tried to stop me, despite my whiteness.

Fideliney · 12/06/2014 00:54

(I do have an afro gene though, much diluted)

Jomato · 12/06/2014 20:05

"Dark and Lovely" have a children's range which I use on my Curly DD. Definitely makes it more manageable and is not too heavy or oily.

sillystring · 12/06/2014 20:07

I am white but have very curly hair. The John Frieda frizz ease range has been a godsend. I have brilliant corkscrews now, as opposed to "bubble perm disco ball".
