to think I should have done more for this woman

Was out with my dp and dd today. We were walking past dome public toilets when we saw a little dog (v little pedigree) on a lead no owner. I went after the dog who had gone into ladies toilet and was hiding behind one of the toilets. Clearly terrified. Managed to pick him up and then a woman with her dd came and said -please just take that dog home with you its owners are addicts and rowing in the mens toilets. I said to the woman to hold dog while I went to see if I would help. She wouldn't so I sent dp. He said they were locked in cubicle and all hell breaking loose. I told dp to call police. Then a police car came around the corner and we flagged them down. Mrantime a council worker and the woman who was still trying to get me yo take yhe fog said this couple were always doing this.

Then woman came out. She was about 30 and whilst bedraggled and dirty she was stunning. It really struck me . I asked if she was ok and she just said - I just want my dog. I gave him to her and said a really stupid thing "you will look after him wont you?"Blush Hmm what an idiot. Of course she told me to fuck off and stalked off with her dog.police talking to her dp.

I left as we had dd with us but I feel I should have helped her somehow. But how??? What could I have done? Especially as I upset things more with my stupid comment in an effort to get her to talk.

I don't think there was anything else you could do unfortunately :(

You did the right thing getting the police involved, but your priority was right with your child.

TwinkleTwinkleStarlight · 08/06/2014 20:49

What could you have actually done? The police were there and you don't know if she was 'attacking' her dp and not the other way round.

LEMmingaround · 08/06/2014 20:59

Twinkle I think it was very much both as bad as each other to be fair but a friwndly ear might have helped?

If they really were addicts then a friendly ear wouldn't have made any difference. People have to find their own reasons to motivate themselves to change, surely.

Lancashiregal10 · 08/06/2014 21:10

I don't think you could have done anything more OP. what a horrible situation to find yourself in.

Your comment wasn't stupid. There really wasn't a right thing to say in this scenario.

HornyHandsofToil · 08/06/2014 21:14

If the woman had seen this happen so often, why hasn't she taken the dog to a local shelter, instead to trying to get you to do it?

I thought the too horny. The dog looked healthy which was some consolation but so scared. It hiding in the toilet looked like he did it alot.

I had gone and picked up dog as I thought it was lost. Chihuahua so not typical dog youd expect to see on street and had lead on.

call the RSPCA for advice see if they can pop in and make sure the dog is okay xx

LEMmingaround · 09/06/2014 08:06

Rspca pretty useless ime. My initial concern was the dog nut was more worried about the woman in the end

What could you have done lovey nothing this woman lives like this and has chosen to have a partner the same as her, the poor little dog

KoalaDownUnder · 09/06/2014 09:23

I feel so sad for the dog. Sad

I don't think you did anything wrong, though.
