AIBU to be annoyed at 'Britain First' Facebook statuses.

Actually I know IANBU... a lot of my Facebook friends seem to have 'liked' the 'Britain First' Facebook Page.
They keep sharing 'Britain First' statuses on the news feed.

'Britain First' pretend to be an ordinary patriotic organisation but they are in fact a far right fascist group run by an ex-BNP fundraiser.
Paul Golding of 'Britain First' has actually gone into Mosques during
prayer times to give out bibles which is obviously very disrespectful.

They are using the imagery of D-Day to promote their page at present which to me is wrong - how can a fascist organisation celebrate the WW2 heroes who fought against, er, fascism??!

Sadly a lot of my FB friends have either fallen for it or actually don't care that 'Britain First' are Fascists.
Only a couple of people have seen through it and are putting statuses up against Britain First.

I have put a status up saying that 'BF' are a racist fascist organisation and that it's everyone's individual choice to like the page but they should be aware of what they are liking.
It is giving me the rage to be honest - AIBU to be annoyed, angry, fed up with this?

That post from Lyn Rigby is deeply upsetting, I can't even begin to imagine how you deal with something like that, let alone whilst grieving.

Vile vile vile.

Feenie · 05/06/2014 23:39

Exactly - they choose emotive topics and feed of people's outrage. A poppies remembrance one is another favourite - don't donate to them, you idiots, the British army fought against fascism - donate to the British Legion or in the case above, the RSPCA, not a bunch of Islamaphobic fascist cunts

IneedAwittierNickname · 05/06/2014 23:45

There's another one called Britain First. (note the fullstop)

I was Shock and Confused when one of my (normally lovely, intelligent, rational, mail hating etc) friends 'liked' them. Then I realised they weren't Britain First, but a piss take.

whatsthatcomingoverthehill · 05/06/2014 23:46

It's really disappointing. I never seem to come across this sort of stuff on Facebook. Neither do I see people bragging of their sexual exploits. Clearly I need new friends as mine are all too boring.

Monty27 · 06/06/2014 00:24

I pm'd a colleague from work the other day to advise her to stop doing it. She hadn't realised....

I was looking out for her, it would have been very disapproved of in our line of work. Silly girl. Confused

AmberLeaf · 06/06/2014 00:29

From that britain first. [with full stop]

Britain First. I'm the not so eloquent admin, the one who swears a lot. I agree with wot this brother said here. Too many pakis think the world owes them something, too many don't read before they comment Too many are closet racists living in denial, just like the white racist, the brown racist is a nice guy in real life but online he turns into a different beast altogether

They seem no better than the ones without the full stop. Bit confused they are.

andsmile · 06/06/2014 00:39

My Dh was ranting about this last week and did a bit of FB pruning YANBU

shockinglybadteacher · 06/06/2014 00:41

Don't have fash as your facebook pals. It's that simple.

Latara · 06/06/2014 00:46

Difficult though shockingly when they are colleagues and relatives that I didn't even realise did have those views - and they can't seem to see anything wrong with it.

If I unfriend them then they will still be around and they will still have those views.

I saw the dog post when my sister in law shared it the other day. I didn't take much notice as she posts a lot of guff, but had to check back and it was indeed Britain First. Awkward.

PrincessBabyCat · 06/06/2014 01:49

LOL Checked it out, had to laugh at the British Jesus. "We should take our cue from our Master, Jesus Christ, and behave as He would".

Feenie · 06/06/2014 07:00

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure Jesus would have organised 'mosque invasions'.

IneedAwittierNickname · 06/06/2014 08:24

Amber that's made me Confused Their stuff was tongue in cheek when I looked a while ago, maybe they've changed.

Latara · 06/06/2014 09:13

Well, after posting the truth about 'Britain First' on my FB status last night, I checked my newsfeed this morning and one of my cousins has STILL used a BF image about D-Day.

I'm not surprised as she is quite right wing anyway I suppose. But it's still disappointing.

OP posts:
Latara · 06/06/2014 09:14

(Just to say I'm not criticising my cousin for posting about D-Day, just upset that she used a Britain First meme to do so).

OP posts:
EagleRay · 07/06/2014 21:10

Just seen a FB friend 'like' an BNP posting! Silly woman - she's in a public-facing role for a very well-known company. I've now posted a general warning on my timeline asking people to check what they're sharing as think a lot of them haven't realised what they're doing.

Latara · 07/06/2014 21:55

One of my colleagues has also just shared a BNP status - the BNP are using the photo of the elderly veteran who escaped his care home for Normandy - I doubt they have his permission!

I'm disgusted. Also Britain First keep using D-Day and Poppy imagery to promote their brand of neo-Nazism.

OP posts:
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 07/06/2014 22:00

dH's auntie just 'liked' that BNP page, she is in Australia and doesn't know who they are.

YANBU, they are vile

Latara · 07/06/2014 22:07

Sadly I think the colleagues and cousin who are continuing to use BF and also the BNP's status updates really are ultra right-wing.

I've now put up several memes from 'Exposing Britain First' to educate people and they are still posting this shite.

So I will have to start defriending people which is a shame.

IneedAwittierNickname · 07/06/2014 22:17

Ive had a few friends, who at election time were very vocally anti bnp, ukip etc, share that picture Latara I wonder if they've liked/shared without realising what page its from :(

EagleRay · 07/06/2014 22:21

Makes me wonder if someone dumb enough to share stuff like that should actually be eligible to vote Confused

BuzzardBird · 07/06/2014 22:25

There is another group called 'Britain Furst' who discredit all that is said by the Facists.

AlerieVelaryon · 07/06/2014 22:32

I have just warned a NZ born person who works in a public institution that the "nice" post about the DD veteran is put up by the very people he fought against all those years ago.

shakethetree · 07/06/2014 22:44

Yabu - you will never be able to stop these organisations ( providing they are operating within the law obviously ) & you'll never be able to dictate to your f/b friends what they can, or can not like. It might be an idea to delete f/b & save yourself a lot of unnecessary stress.

EagleRay · 07/06/2014 22:52

But the problem is *shakethetree) that a lot of people don't actually realise what they're sharing. The first friend I saw sharing the Britain First picture just saw a starving dog - she's really liberal and just hadn't looked at the wording surrounding the picture properly.

On the other hand, have just realised one of my stepsisters has shared the Britain First poppy picture, but she's v Conservative, Countryside Alliance, pro-hunting etc etc so could well have known what she was posting. And that doesn't bother me so much - everyone entitled to their opinion (if legal) - it's the people who share stuff without checking the basics that annoy me.
