Dd1 has had very badly ingrowing toenails for 3-4 months now. She walks on the outsides of her feet as they are so painful and swollen.
In April she had to have them lanced and drained at hospital then they had to be redressed with iodine dressings every few days at GPS.
They got infected again very badly and she needed a 10 day course of antibiotics, it helped but as soon as she stopped they became infected again but worse.
The gp said to bathe them every day in salty water, push the skin back so the nails grow out and to apply antibacterial cream which we have.
Dds toes are red, hot, throbbing and sore again. I asked the gp if the nails can just be sorted out and removed from where they are digging in but they said no that it will take months for them to grow out and gave dd another 10 day course of flucloxacillin. I don't want her on antibiotics all the time.
I think the dr should take this seriously and actually do something to help make them better-poor dd cannot walk properly!
AIBU to think they should not just mask the infection with anti b and instead get rid of the problem properly?
