To think this was a little insensitive?

My DH and I aren't having a fab year so far.
A baby in the family died followed by another family member fighting cancer and now a friend of mine died yesterday (expected but not so soon).
We were having a chat on the way to work and I strongly believe that mindset has a lot to do with how people deal with terminal illnesses. It is awful, sadly a number of years ago my family dealt with this three times over in quick succession. I have no idea how I would cope and I know everyone is completely different, it must be horrendous to hear.
However, hubby got all scientific on me saying I am wrong. He might well be right but bad timing or am I just being sensitive?

OP please can you clarify what you meant.

expatinscotland · 04/06/2014 19:27

Mindset makes utter fuck all difference. You say you cannot imagine how you would cope, and in that, you are right. So stop making presumptions like about how mindset helps.

You were being really insensitive if what you were suggesting was that how people react to a bad diagnosis determines the course of the illness. I hate talk of fighting cancer, beating cancer etc as it implies people who have died of terminal illness are somehow losers or not sufficiently determine to live.

Where you actually suggesting in the conversation that your friend who died sooner than expected brought it on her/himself by having a negative mindset? I can hardly believe anyone would say something like that but your post implies that maybe you did Hmm

deakymom · 04/06/2014 23:07

do you mean the mindset of the person with terminal illness or the mindset of the people dealing with the person dealing with terminal illness? its a bit unclear

i think when you're dealing with people who are terminal you need to stay focussed on them and positive for them it helps them if you're not dissolving in tears being a llama drama etc so if that is what you meant i agree with you

I don't have a clue what the OP means. Can someone explain?

No point posting here as OP isn't returning to clarify.
