My friend I go with certainly isn't blessed with dancing feet or rhythm but she really enjoyed it and worked up a sweat

Vampyre - at the gym I go to! children aren't allowed to swim unaccompanied until they are 16! It's a bugger, because it limits the available times I can go to the gym as it means I have to go when dh is around, or I have to book a babysitter.

I'd say try it. Two approaches:

  1. Start by watching the teacher carefully and doing only some of the moves (do the feet, forget about the arms, or vice versa). Build up speed and moving all limbs together only as you get more confident.

  2. Feel the music, imagine you're in a dark club/on your own at home with the radio on, dash it all and just MOVE!

I do a mix of both (did more of 1 when I was a beginner) and I come out of class beetroot-faced and have to peel my clothes off. [nice]

I made a typo in my post about kids swimming.......it should read children WOULDN'T be allowed to swim unaccompanied, not would. Whoops.

I am not dead... just almost.

I did 1km rowing, 4km cycling (not on the proper bikes as legs just too short). Also I walked to the gym which is about a mile.

I have had a bath now and I ache a bit.
