To think Bonjela is a cruel joke?

SilverSixpence · 03/06/2014 15:50

I have a huge mouth ulcer, it really really hurts. Bonjela on top of that is so searingly painful that it makes my eyes water - and it doesn't even work after the initial agony! Is there anything better out there?

Salt water. Or if you're feeling brave, salt directly on the ulcer.

SilverSixpence · 03/06/2014 15:53

Ouch Specialstuff, does that actually help?

Anbesol? I think that's how it's spelt, you can get it over the counter and that definatley numbs the gum

kelda · 03/06/2014 15:54

How long have you had the ulcer for? If it's really big or if you've had it a while, then you should see the GP.

SilverSixpence · 03/06/2014 15:55

Kelda its a fairly new ulcer, started after eating a baguette so think it must be due to trauma. I should have known there was a reason I stopped eating it!

I've used the cool bonjela and that worked better also anbesol as mentioned above. Not to be confused with Anusol...

beccajoh · 03/06/2014 15:57

Put vinegar on it. Stings like buggery at first but fizzes a bit and goes numb.

kelda · 03/06/2014 15:57

oh yes I hate crusty baguettes, they hurt my mouth too.

MuscatBouschet · 03/06/2014 15:57

I agree salt water soothes and aids healing.

Stinkle · 03/06/2014 15:57

I've used Iglu and found it pretty effective

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 03/06/2014 15:59

I've only ever used the cool bonjela and it works a treat. Stings like a bitch at first then soooo soothing.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 03/06/2014 16:00

steroids. The brown (?) steroid inhaler directly on the ulcer supposedly helps. I have been prescribed steroid pills from the GP before, they hurt like fuck but they kill the buggers dead really quickly.

YouTheCat · 03/06/2014 16:01

Boots sell pastilles which you let dissolve on the ulcer. They are very good.

BadRoly · 03/06/2014 16:02

Ds2 uses Iglu that Stinkle recommends. It works really well for him.

MelanieCheeks · 03/06/2014 16:02

I've never found any of the topical treatments to be any good.

What DOES work for me is to use a toothpaste with no SLS in it (Sensodyne Pronamel is my fave), to avoid stress (yeah right!) , and to use Corsodyl mouthwash.

I feel your pain - hope it gets better soon!

CottonbudCatastrophe · 03/06/2014 16:07

I'd only recomend the Iglu, if your ulcer is in a part of your mouth where the gel won't get rubbed off. It forms a sort gluey barrier & is pretty effective if left in place, however if it comes off, eg on your teeth, it's absolutely vile.

WhileWeSleep · 03/06/2014 16:09

Orajel works for me. Numbs your whole mouth

IneedAwittierNickname · 03/06/2014 16:09

Rinstead pastilles, or salt but that's super ouchy!

ThaneOfScunthorpe · 03/06/2014 16:28

Anbesol is amazing.

Mabelface · 03/06/2014 16:31

Anbesol here too

Incapinka · 03/06/2014 16:35

Iglu. And camomile tea is good too...

MrsMcEnroe · 03/06/2014 16:43

TCP is great. Dilute 1 part TCP to 4 parts warm water and swill over the ulcer.

Then spit it out, scream, and have some vodka to numb the pain!

My sympathies OP. Hope the bugger clears up soon.
