To think people are becoming more selfish?

I'm on a bus at the moment. There is one guy sitting down in the seats intended for elderly and disabled, with his bag AND ONE FOOT on the seat opposite when there are people standing. There is another guy listening to music so loudly that the whole bus can hear. Both old enough to know better (at least 25). Both utterly self-absorbed.

AIBU to think that this kind of behaviour is on the rise? I'm only 34 but I sometimes feel like an old gimmer harking back to the 'good old days'!

Yes I agree with previous poster. I think good manners from you always works to counteract their rudeness.

Would you mind etc. thank you so much with big smile.

most people are really nice just a few selfish ones.

Yesterday a woman took ages in supermarket chatting to cashier and they may have known each other socially. I was waiting patiently but a man behind me told her to hurry up and stop chatting which she was. she still had all her bags (stores not hers note) on the conveyor & she was quite rude back to him but I think she was being tardy and slow and holding up the queue. I would have been mortified if I was holding people up. I think she was selfish.

The worst one I had was a charming old dear who refused to move her bag off the seat on a crouded bus so my 2 year old could sit down. She didn't want her bag to get dirty and no she couldn't possibly put it on her knee as it might mark her trousers! I sat the child on her bag.

Conversely, the nicest person I've met on the bus was a big bloke with a don't mess air who insisted I have his seat and entertained DD for the whole journey.

The music blaring on the bus drives me mad I always take mine out to make sure that nobody else can hear them. People who sit on the seat closesed to the isle so nobody can sit next to them.

People are more selfish/ruder/meaner on the tube. Have been travelling by underground for years and never cease to be amazed by the selfishness everywhere nowadays.

Lottapianos · 03/06/2014 08:48

Yes yes to both of those examples ihavemyownname

YANBU
People are definitely far more selfish.
I see it everywhere. There's a 'me first' attitude everywhere, I even find it when driving. People. Don't give way any more.

Yanbu.

Especially in Londond. I lived in London 26 years. It totally changed for the worst in that time. I moved to south norfolk and it's like London used to be in terms of being polite and crime levels etc.

From my own experiences, people are generally less considerate these days, but there have always been selfish people. People watching iPads with the sound on and no headphones drives me mad, but I struggle to challenge it... maybe because it's a public space? I'll always ask someone to move their bag if it's on a seat.
