We split up the end of march. When he came to pick up DS this morning the letter from HM Revenue was on the door mat. I stupidly opened it straight away & he asked me how much i was getting. I said it was none of his business & he said he was asking for DS. So AIBU not to tell him?

Of course you shouldn't tell him.

ElizaDolittle2 · 31/05/2014 13:38

You don't have to tell him at the moment, but if you are married you will have to disclose it as part of your financial settlement in divorce.

CarCiKoTab · 31/05/2014 13:44

No, it's none of his business!

Fairylea · 31/05/2014 13:46

Absolutely don't tell him. Nothing to do with him!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 31/05/2014 13:46

Why would your DS need to know. Is he trying to get out of maintenance payments?

HecatePropylaea · 31/05/2014 13:46

He doesn't need to know. Your son doesn't need to know so how can he be asking for him?

YouTheCat · 31/05/2014 13:48

What you're entitled to from the tax credits is between you and the tax office, not him.

ruddynorah · 31/05/2014 13:48

Do you not get on? Maybe he just meant he wanted to know you have enough money coming in.

FeelLikeCrying · 31/05/2014 13:50

As Eliza has said it is between you and the tax office unless you are going to get divorced. As part of the process to sort out the finances you will need to disclose all of the income that you get, including any tax credits.

17leftfeet · 31/05/2014 13:50

Absolutely nothing to do with him

quirkycutekitch · 31/05/2014 13:57

Thanks for the replies.

No we weren't married.

I don't think he's trying to get out of maintenence but perhaps if i did ask him for some money in the future for something DS needed he could say 'you get X tax credits use that. '

DS is only 3 now so not that expensive. I'm just thinking ahead to school trips etc.

A 3 year old does not need to know

YouTheCat · 31/05/2014 13:59

Make sure he pays you the correct maintenance now if he's likely to be awkward about it.

quirkycutekitch · 31/05/2014 14:12

We've agreed on maintenence using the online calculator. I know he would never see DS go without. But he is tight with him money so i think he would try & get out of paying extra if he could.

If he insists. Tell him you get 50p a week lol.
