To wear the same outfit to a wedding over and over again?

I genuinely don't know if this is ok or not!

Basically I have my 'go to' wedding outfit, I have a dress, shoes I'm comfy in, and a wrap type thing. I love it, I feel great in it and it looks nice.
However, I must have worn it to at least 3 or 4 occasions by now (originally bought 5 years ago).

Now I couldn't care less about anyone commenting on the fact I've worn the same thing a few times, but is it considered 'bad form' or anything not to make an effort? I'm trying to find something else, but failing miserably!

MN Jury - I need you!

I'm doing this too, with a classic dress from jigsaw that cost me 150 4years ago. I get a bit of a (sad)thrill from doing it when everyone else is fretting!

I rotate a few outfits around. I often end up at weddings with an overlap of friends so I wouldn't want to re-wear one all the time. It's nice to get use out of lovely outfits and inject a new one in occasionally.

One friend reused the same outfit every time long after its best before date. She didn't update accessories either so the overall look was very 15 years ago. The last time I saw it, it was literally falling apart at the seams with threads hanging off and seams splitting. Not a great look. Her partner was also in a tie dating from the same era. Re-use outfits but be honest about their style and condition. Are they classic or dated.

I have about 5 'Wedding outfits' hanging in my wardrobe.
All bought for different weddings, all dresses I loved. None have been worn again which is a great shame.
I am going to a wedding in August and I have already decided that I will be wearing a dress from my 'collection' and not buying new.
Going to the wedding will cost us a fortune in travel and hotel rooms so I feel OK rewearing a dress.

I was brought up with the idea of having an outfit for "best" so I would.

bauhausfan · 31/05/2014 12:24

I think it is a great idea to wear the same outfit. I would except I keep getting fatter... Anyway, why not just update the accessories - different wrap, shoes, bag etc so you don't get bored.

HermioneWeasley · 31/05/2014 12:28

I've never understood the automatic reaction of "need to buy a new outfit" for each wedding. Bonkers. Enjoy spending time with your friends and celebrating their day

YANBU. And good on you for doing this rather than follow the daft sheep who insist they have to buy something new on every occasion.

SwedishEdith · 31/05/2014 12:41

Oh I would, definitely. Mind you,I've still got the dress from the last wedding I went to but have just been invited to the second wedding of the groom. That might be pushing it

SinglePringle · 31/05/2014 12:50

Nope. Wouldn't. But I adore buying clothes and buy something each week. I enjoy planning outfits so would actively seek out new clobber - bag, shoes and jewellry also.

Eastpoint · 31/05/2014 12:51

Sometimes new shoes/accessories just make an outfit look more outdated.

My mother didn't buy a new outfit for our wedding & my MIL didn't either. Mind you she didn't stay for the evening reception either, took herself off.

mrscog · 31/05/2014 17:27

Thanks everyone, all good ideas. I think after this wedding i might hunt out a new classic outfit, but I'm also planning on a DC2 so want to wait and see how my body recovers after that before splashing out on new clothes!

A friend of mine buys beautiful outfits, wears them (whilst hiding the price labels) and then returns them for a refund after the event. She has never been busted and everyone comments on how she always wears something different. She is a very bad girl.

JustPassingThru · 31/05/2014 20:26

MIL doesn't approve. She was very shocked that someone she knows wore the same dress to the weddings of each of her offspring. MIL considered it a reflection on the husband, mind, that she didn't "get" a new outfit bought for her: she was a SAHM, he was well paid. Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 31/05/2014 20:41

I don't think you have to have to spend a lot (I guess it depends on how much you think is a lot). I've only bought one dress full price from Coast. All my dresses are from Coast, Ted Baker or Monsoon and Oasis and I bought them in the sale or on eBay.
