to not tell dh about the 'check engine' light and ignore it as car is working fine?

The check engine light is now coming on a couple of times a week. We really can't afford to do anything to fix it and it is functional at the moment, it just Judders a bit when I go too slow in 5th.

Dh will get stressed and try to fix it himself. Would rather not have that as its not his forte.

And this explains what he said and it appears he was correct on even though he only got a small amount of info from me.

engine management,limpmode

bigdog888 · 02/06/2014 14:23

Well it appeared that he said that a car will always enter limp mode when the EML is illuminated which is incorrect.

bigdog888 · 02/06/2014 14:25

Also worth noting that an ECU can ignore data from certain sensors and allow the engine to continue running without entering limp mode.

BuzzardBird · 02/06/2014 14:25

No,(boring myself now) it was an explanation for the juddering of car.

bigdog888 · 02/06/2014 14:30

he said that when your engine management light comes on in amber the engine goes into limp home mode

That was what you actually said. Makes him sound like a pretty crap mechanic when there are people here who actually know what we're talking about.

BuzzardBird · 02/06/2014 14:35

Ha ha bigdog. You sound lovely...and wrong Grin

bigdog888 · 02/06/2014 16:24

Well, that's what you actually said! Tell me what I'm wrong about?

Raskova · 02/06/2014 18:51

Buzzard she's not wrong. That link asks why the light comes on and car goes to limp mode. As I said before, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Raskova · 02/06/2014 18:51

Ermmmm, sorry if you're a man big dog Blush

Norland · 02/06/2014 20:41

I may have missed it but what is the model and year of manufacture?

All I gleaned was it's a petrol-engined Fiat, with an 03 plate. That's not enough to make any guesses I'm afraid.

As to the OP's original question, no OP, you're not being unreasonable in not telling your husband, you're being a feckin' idiot.
