Argh!

I hate spooky. I hate ghosts. I am a big, feart scaredy- cat!

So it has come to my attention that my humble abode is indeed haunted
Several have said they have heard / experienced strange noises / seen things.

Help! AIBU to want to move dh, dd and I out?

onetiredmummy - because I saw the film and that's what it sounded like.

juneau · 30/05/2014 17:35

If there's something weird in your neighbourhood
Who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters!
If there's something weird and it don't look good
Who you gonna call?
Ghostbusters!

If you're renting, move. If you've bought - priest?

onetiredmummy · 30/05/2014 17:42

neiljames I'm seriously losing the plot. What film? :)

Canus · 30/05/2014 17:42

Oooh juneau that reminds me, Ghostbusters Lego is being released in June.

neiljames77 · 30/05/2014 17:44

juneau - either that or she she just stand in the middle of the room and shout out in a firm voice, "SHOW YOURSELF".
(don't be fooled if the ghost takes the form of a masonary bee or a bluebottle. They're clever like that)

neiljames77 · 30/05/2014 17:45

onetiredmummy - White noise. It's a good film.

onetiredmummy · 30/05/2014 17:47

Haven't seen it :)

neiljames77 · 30/05/2014 17:47

that second she should have said should

juneau · 30/05/2014 17:57

I loved that film - haven't seen it in ages. Lego? Great! I have a Lego-mad six-year-old Grin

I've known several clocks on one floor of my house stop at the same time (battery operated, so not a power cut) or stop and start again at random.

I've also seen things move, seemingly of their own accord. (hat box sliding off the top of a wardrobe, keys moving on the table while I look at them, doors open and close, swing ball bats simultaneously leaping off their hooks in opposite directions...)

Spooks? Who knows... I also used to find taps turned on in the middle of the night, but soon realized it was DD1 sleepwalking.

neiljames77 · 30/05/2014 18:14

newsecretidentity - those Chinese batteries are really shit aren't they?

newsecretidentity · 30/05/2014 18:28

That was my first theory until I tried Duracell Super Absorbent Premium Power Plus expensive ones and had the same thing happen.

(But the clocks themselves were cheap and may have come from China, if that helps.)

Therewere5inthebed · 30/05/2014 18:41

Sorry, Ghosts bloody do exist! I would have said exactly the same as most people above until I spent the night in an (unknown to me) haunted house. I left with my kids at 3am after being woken by the third time in the night by a small child tugging on the bedclothes and it was not one of mine.. Flame me all you like but I have never actually s**t myself through fear before this time.. (Sorry if TMI)

BakeOLiteGirl · 30/05/2014 18:52

OP I'm one of the most sceptical people I know. Yet there was one place I lived in that was awful. Twice I grabbed my child, purse and phone and got out that moment.

I moved flats within the same building and the buggers followed me. Eventually called COE who blessed the building.

It wasn't just me who saw things but other people too. It really was like one of those horror films. But things are OK now.

If it doesn't happen to you, it sounds completely bonkers which is why I rarely talk about it.

neiljames77 · 30/05/2014 18:54

Was it not just one of your kids with a bed sheet over their head? (not your bed sheet for obvious reasons)

PaulinesPen · 30/05/2014 19:03

Well I LOVE my house. Totally love it. But I do know that the man that lived here before diedSad I assume he loved it as much as I did and will be happy to know that we'll look after it. I haven't heard a peep since we've been here so I'm assumining either ghosties are baloney (which I don't happen to believe, even though dh does) or that original owner is ok with us being here. Maybe appeal to you ghost's better nature and reassure that all is so they can 'move on' to wherever they go?

BakeOLiteGirl · 30/05/2014 19:06

Oh God I tried that with mine. Turns out he didn't have a better nature and was a complete dick head.

calculatorsatdawn · 30/05/2014 19:08

On a serious note, if you do have ghost problems you can exorcise them with homeopathy

neiljames77 · 30/05/2014 19:15

calculatorsatdawn - no but they'll be a lot more relaxed.

Therewere5inthebed · 30/05/2014 19:21

No it wasn't mine with a bed sheet over their head, I bloody wish it had been though, to be woken by the sound of small feet on bare floorboards I thought it was mine, as you would to start with but when the bedclothes were pulled sharply and I saw the boy I shot into my girls room to check if they were ok, they were and sleeping soundly as you would expect at 1.30am it happened two more times before I was too scared to even consider staying, I'm pretty sure in hindsight that he wouldn't have hurt me but I think the shock nearly killed me.

calculatorsatdawn · 30/05/2014 19:24

neiljames or at least very well hydrated

squoosh · 30/05/2014 19:27

What spooky happenings have people told you they've experienced in your house OP?

I'm not sceptical at all but have never experienced any woo related activity!

headinhands · 30/05/2014 19:39

PrincessBabyCat · 30/05/2014 19:44

What if it's from someone that died recently and they just want the password to your wifi?

I'm curious about the spooky things that happened in the house though. :)

I believe in ghosts, I just don't care that they exist.
