Not having a very good week

Saturday our new neighbors husky got into our garden killed two chickens and attacked our shetland pony while ds was riding him! Dog managed to bite ds and pony accidentally kicked my arm. Thankfully its owners, with help from dh, managed to catch their devil dog and said they were sorry, it's never happened before (though admitted dog has shown considerable interest in the noise and smells coming from our animals) would pay for any vet treatment/replacement chickens and hoped me and ds weren't too hurt Angry

At this point dh informed them that since we own chickens, sheep and horses (all classed as livestock) we would be well within our rights to have the dog shot the next time it got onto our property before it could do any harm. Dh failed to mention that the entire property was covered by cctv so the attack was recorded and we will be informing the police and the dog warden.

Thankfully my hand wasn't broken and ds only has superficial wounds on his leg. Prince (the shetland) will also make a full recovery, even if his does end up needing desensitizing to dogs though its not his fault if he does

Monday I come down with a major cold, pounding head, ache all over, snot monster, hardly any sleep the works

Tuesday I realise we're out of essentials and cold relief items, since dh was at work he couldn't get them so I had to go to the supermarket. Didn't realise it was half term so the supermarket would be full of screaming/running around children. As I was feeling shite with the mother of all pounding headaches I was less than impressed and loading/unloading the car took twice as long since I can't use my left hand :(

Wednesday next doors dog appeared in our garden. I grabbed it and looked over their fence, couldn't see anyone and the door was shut. Tied the dog up, waited an hour in case they noticed he was gone and called the dog warden about a stray I'd found in the street (better they get a fine than dh shooting it as if they hadn't retrieved it before he came home that's exactly what would have happened).

Today next door seem to have only just realised the dog is gone?? They left him outside overnight as they were staying over at friends and they didn't want him to have an accident in the house! It's a good thing he jumped the fence in the morning then or he could have attacked some more of our animals. I've recommended they try the dog warden and told them how irresponsible they were since they know he can jump into our garden.

Finally having a much needed cup of tea. This week can only improve right?

Op that's awful.
My mom is a farmer & has had trouble with dogs attacking her sheep & u r right that if ur neighbours dog is worrying your livestock u r well within ur legal rights 2 shoot it but I always thought it was a bit extreme unless they were intent on a killing spree.
I loved that u called the dog warden & I hope they did get fined.
I hope things improve this week 4 u 2.

They left the dog outside all night while they were away?

I hope the dog is removed and rehomed with someone responsible for its sake as well as yours.

Glad you, DS and pony are on the mend.

OHforDUCKScake · 29/05/2014 15:49

Prevention is better than cure, they need to secure their fence so he cant get over.

Im glad you called the wardens.

onetiredmummy · 29/05/2014 16:18

Nobody wins here, certainly not the husky.

I'm glad you are OK & the damage to you, your animals & DS were minimal. You did absolutely the right thing in calling the warden, I can't believe they left the poor dog outside all night knowing he could get into your garden again.

Your week can improve :)

WaywardOn3 · 30/05/2014 16:35

Today is not an improvement :-( up all night coughing as well as most of today, can barely breath for all the coughing at some points T-T

Your neighbours are irresponsible fools who shouldn't be allowed to have a dog. Hope you are all feeling better.

Sounds like they aren't exercising the poor dog enough - huskies need hours and hours of exercise a day or they go a bit mad from boredom.
