To sneak food onto the London eye?

Albertatata · 28/05/2014 20:17

Oh wise mumsnetters - Would this be possible? Considering hiting a private pod for a friends bday so thinking of taking homemadebirthdays on and some fizz.

Would this be possible? Do they search your bags? If not we would probably be having a picnic afterwards anyway so would probably have the food on us anyway - what would they do confiscate it?

any experience anyone?

Argh so many spelling & grammatical errors - bloody predictive text & cracked screen!

Hiring not hiting, homemade birthday cake etc etc sorry!

They have cameras in the pods don't they?

DeWee · 28/05/2014 20:32

We definitely had food in our bags, and I think dd2 ate some biscuits when going round, and certainly others did. I can't remember anything being said about not. We definitely needed drinks too as it got fairly hot.

Not sure about fizz (assuming you meant alcohol) and definitely don't light candles!

dexter73 · 28/05/2014 20:36

I had my bag looked through before I got on so I don't think you would get away with it personally.

whois · 28/05/2014 20:36

You have a steward in the pod with you even in private pods I think

plotmissinginaction · 28/05/2014 20:37

You won't be on your own though, there will be a member of staff there.

DoJo · 28/05/2014 20:43

I wouldn't - they sell their own 'champagne' flights so are likely to be quite stringent about stopping people from taking their own on. Plus they scan the pods for bombs etc every time they come around so they are probably even hotter on checking bags. A full on picnic bag can probably be left in a safe spot in this sort of situation.

FunkyBoldRibena · 28/05/2014 20:46

Crikey, we did this for a friends 40th, cakes and champers all round. No steward. Thinking about it, friend must be 53 ish now. Wow.

honeykitten · 28/05/2014 20:52

Blimey it isn't that long round the London eye is it? Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 28/05/2014 20:56

Yes I went on about 12 years ago and don't remember stewards, why on earth is that necessary

MrsDe · 28/05/2014 21:17

No stewards on there. Guess they might tell you not to open it if they see it in your bags and yes there will be cameras. While you could finish the drinks etc off by the time you go around they might have a word with you at the end. I couldn't relax with that prospect honestly!

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 21:21

I have been on with someone who producced a bottle of champagne and told me for the first time that he loved me and it was fine. All the other epeople on the pod were tourists and they all clapped and cooed and were lovely about it

It'll be fine.

There are no stewards. There are no cake police. Relax and enjoy!

QueenStromba · 28/05/2014 21:33

I was on a year or two ago and there wasn't a steward in our pod.

Tricycletops · 28/05/2014 22:16

I think you have stewards if it's just a couple - I know somebody who proposed in a private pod and they had one. Something to do with the mile high club perhaps!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 28/05/2014 22:20

Food fine, they do look through your bags though so you might have to leave large bottles of bubbles behind. Have managed it in the past with mini bottles but its about a 12 min circuit. Debatable that its worth the stress!

wheresthelight · 28/05/2014 23:41

we asked about taking our own champers on for a friend's hen do and were asked not to. another girl attempted to smuggle it on but she had her bag searched and they made her leave it behind

Xihha · 29/05/2014 00:21

when i took a group of Guides up a few years ago we weren't allowed to take our lunches up with us, the man checking bags looked after it for us.

As they do champagne experiences it would be quite unreasonable to sneak it on rather than pay for the correct ticket imo.

whois · 29/05/2014 00:55

Yeah if you have a private capsual for 2 you have a 'Personal London Eye host' as mentioned I suppose it's to stop people shagging!

WorraLiberty · 29/05/2014 01:06

OMG whois I bet that's exactly why! Haha

Never really thought about it Shock

fuckinglondonballs · 29/05/2014 01:43

Don't take food or drink. Just enjoy the view! Save your champagne for the South Bank. You're not on there for long.

musicalendorphins2 · 29/05/2014 05:21

Isn't the London Eye a ferris wheel?

musicalendorphins2 · 29/05/2014 05:30

Five.Hundred.Pounds
For a 30 minute ferris wheel ride!?

Isn't there a sky scraper restaurant where you could at least get a nice meal out of it?

Eastpoint · 29/05/2014 05:33

It takes 30 mins to go round. Their website says you can take water but no other food & drink and gives you the option of a champagne flight for £31.54 if you book online in advance. You get a glass each but there is a steward. London Eye

You need this :)

Honeybear30 · 29/05/2014 08:27

I would just enjoy the 30 minute 'flight' and then laze over a picnic afterwards. It would be really hurried otherwise?!
