Went swimming today & as I was walking to the steps there was a lady sitting on them breastfeeding.

I carried on as if nothing was wrong but the mentioned it to the life guard as I walked out. The lady looked disgusted that she was told to stop or carry on else where

AIBU to think it's wrong to breastfeed in the swimming pool

I hope you don't take your kids out in public where peedos might look at them Drgon.

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 22:33

I know feenie, this thread has really wound me up!

Just take consolation I'm that every argument in favour of the op is seriously flawed and unsubstantiated.

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 22:34

*in that

Feenie · 28/05/2014 22:34

Tbh, Softly, after reading your ramblings I am beginning to think I might have had too much Wine.

Feenie · 28/05/2014 22:35

Thanks, eminy and 5madthings, as long as it isn't just me.

'Hun', Jesus Christ

ElBombero · 28/05/2014 22:36

I've breastfed on swimming pool steps and would of been Shock of I would of been told to stop.

WTF YABU you see nothing, the babies settled and not screaming the place down and getting some good and comfort from his mother. What the hell has it got to do with you, telling the lifeguard. Get a grip and a life

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 22:38

But then drgonz you went on to call them "nasty". Just because someone chooses to do something differently to you, it does not make them weird or nasty. You attitude, however, is both.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 28/05/2014 22:38

Maybe I should have said ' dementor' would that make you feel better? Grin

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 22:41

Sorry, just realised you meant there maybe nasty people perving on breast feeding women, not that the women are nasty. Apologies for the crossed wires.

Feenie · 28/05/2014 22:42

Get a grip and a life

This.

Igggi · 28/05/2014 22:47

she was putting others at a risk of catching HIV
And the winner of the mostfuckingludicrous statement of the night goes to.... Venus!
She was only putting anyone at risk of "catching HIV" as you put it if she was, in fact, HIV positive - and I imagine having just had a baby she would be aware if that was the case and could take any precautions deemed necessary. In fact, we'd better ban all women from swimming just in case they suddenly start their period and might infect us all that way..
Off to find Wine and escape this shite.

Drgonzosattorney · 28/05/2014 22:49

I apologise if my attitude is going against the grain. I think my view is slightly warped because of media hysteria. It's just my gut reaction but acknowledge that the society isn't full of strange people and mothers have a right to do this.

Drgonzosattorney · 28/05/2014 22:50

Thanks Eminybob. I've just done an about turn!

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 22:51

Drgonz see my last post. I misunderstood your point.

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 22:51

Sorry x post

trambampoline · 28/05/2014 22:53

Is this a hypothetical aibu about that recent story of the woman who got compensation for exactky this.?

trambampoline · 28/05/2014 22:53

The lady looked disgusted that she was told to stop or carry on else where

Not surprised. It's illegal to do that.

Feenie · 28/05/2014 22:56

Oh it's bollocks, clearly bollocks. The only surprising- and deplorable - thing is the huns posts which have come out of the woodwork to back it up.

Drgonzosattorney · 28/05/2014 22:58

Sorry Eminybob

blueshoes · 28/05/2014 23:01

I am not sure how this woman was bf-ing but I assume she would have had to ease her boob out from a v-cut neck line or lift her bikini top, both of which would expose a lot of flesh. Even if the baby covered her boob, there would still be a lot of top on display and it would be obvious what she were doing.

I have bf-ed both my dcs for extended periods and when they were babies in public. But I have always been discreet and wore jumpers so hardly any flesh was on display.

It is her right to bf in the pool but I consider her behaviour exhibitionist and attention-seeking in an area where lots of people are around in close quarters. Doubt if she is doing the bf-ing cause much good.

I suppose she must be an earth mother.

Igggi · 28/05/2014 23:05

Did you wear a jumper every day ? Really? Good luck to you if that was in summertime! Maybe we should issues jumpers in maternity wards, or perhaps a full burqa-style garment would do.

Namelessonsie · 28/05/2014 23:07

Lol at the disdain dripping from the phrase Earth Mother. Cos it's dreadful to, you know, want to mother our children and keep them close and feed them how nature intended. Grin

Ffs, there is more flesh exposed in the average bikini.

BeCool · 28/05/2014 23:09

burqa's would sort the issues with paedo's/perves/BF fetish folk out too!

Feenie · 28/05/2014 23:10

Oh my GOD - call the police immediately. Or catch yourself on and stop being such an arse.

You choose.

5madthings · 28/05/2014 23:10

Maybe she had a tankini on and just lifted it as you would a vest? You can even buy nursing swimwear now so maybe she had that?

Who cares how much boob she was showing she was feeding her baby, I bet many people show more boob when not feeding a baby!
