To think you shouldn't breastfeed in a swimming pool

Went swimming today & as I was walking to the steps there was a lady sitting on them breastfeeding.

I carried on as if nothing was wrong but the mentioned it to the life guard as I walked out. The lady looked disgusted that she was told to stop or carry on else where

AIBU to think it's wrong to breastfeed in the swimming pool

They are wide steps (about 2metres) and there's about 5 of them. She was sat half in the water.

I'm all for breastfeeding in public & it normally doesn't bother me

Why do you think it's wrong?

Mim78 · 28/05/2014 20:17

Yabu. Unless baby could have ended up drinking the water!

findingherfeet · 28/05/2014 20:17

I can't imagine it was the easiest place to stop and feed baby but yeah you are being unreasonable... It's not dirty Hmm (the pool you swam in however was full of piss)

RiverTam · 28/05/2014 20:18

you do know that the water is probably full of spit and goodness knows what else? She had her boob and baby out of the water on the steps - what's the problem.

YABU, and so was the lifeguard.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 28/05/2014 20:19

Well each to their own and all that, I couldn't give a monkeys myself.

There was a humongous thread about swimming pool breast feeding in the last few months.

Get ready for the snippy comments saying you should have researched it before posting this.

Meanderdeander · 28/05/2014 20:19

How odd to object to this. What on earth was wrong?

bellarations · 28/05/2014 20:19

Yabu.
Her breasts, her baby and all that.
I wouldn't do it personally, but then neither would I object.
The baby obliviously needed feeding.

KoalaFace · 28/05/2014 20:19

If you can pinpoint what you didn't like I think we'll understand what you mean more clearly.

PickledSprout · 28/05/2014 20:20

Have you been reading old copies of the Daily Mail?

Meanderdeander · 28/05/2014 20:20

You say you are all for bf in public but that's simply not true. You are clearly anti bf in public. How very sad for you.

MrsKoala · 28/05/2014 20:21

am i missing something Confused why would it be wrong to bf at the pool? Do you mean it's unhygienic OP? I don't understand why it would be problem. I never did it in the pool but always did it in the communal changing room before or after.

PorkPieandPickle · 28/05/2014 20:21

YABU. You do know a woman just won a huge out of court settlement for being asked to get out a pool don't you?!

HappierThanEverBefore · 28/05/2014 20:22

The pool was being used by lots of families with children who were making comments & staring as she wasn't covered in any way.

I know the pool is full of all sorts & there's probably worse in it but it just made me feel uncomfy & like there was something wrong about it.

OP posts:
Meanderdeander · 28/05/2014 20:22

Surely you're not so daft to think if would be unhygienic.

HappierThanEverBefore · 28/05/2014 20:23

If she was out of the water, or in the changing room - fine so not against feeding in public. It was just the fact she was actually in the pool still

OP posts:
crypticbow08 · 28/05/2014 20:23

Hmmm, I don't really see the issue as long as she wasn't in the water doing it.

Why do you think its wrong?

ILoveCoreyHaim · 28/05/2014 20:24

There's no way I would FF a baby in the pool and risk pissy water going in their mouth.

Got no problem with anyone else doing it FF or BF if they want to

Meanderdeander · 28/05/2014 20:24

Omg. Those poor children bring forced to stare at a baby being fed. Perhaps you could have kept your own discomfort (hang ups) to yourself instead of complaining for no reason.

Meanderdeander · 28/05/2014 20:25

How would her being in the pool make a difference ? You do realise there is far worse in the pool don't you?

Eminybob · 28/05/2014 20:26

Then YA definitely BU.

What difference does it make if she was in the pool or elsewhere?

And the fact you complained and the lifeguard asked her to move makes you even more unreasonable.

People like you make me sick. Why should someone have to stop doing something completely natural and normal just because you feel uncomfortable?

HappierThanEverBefore · 28/05/2014 20:26

Cryptic - she was half in the water - sat in a step so it came up to just over her waist.

If she was out of the water etc it's different
