Can you tell me if I've been spectacularly dim this morning? I honestly can't tell and it's bothering me.
I went for a physio appointment this morning at a clinic in our recently redeveloped town centre. I haven't been there since it changed so it's new to me. I wasn't sure where the clinic was so asked a council worker (wearing an ID badge) for directions, found my way to the clinic and the receptionist took my name and booked me in. This was twenty to nine.
9.15 and I hadn't been called, so I asked the receptionist if there was a delay. Turns out there are two clinics in the new town centre, and I was at the wrong one. I'd missed my 9am appointment and have had to make a new one. I'm still in pain and will have to wait another two weeks for a reappointment.
Now, having checked the appointment letter I can see that the address IS different, though clearly in the same complex - it looks like a mistake anyone could have made. There was no map (apparently they aren't allowed to send them any more for copyright reasons
). Incidentally, I had the letter with me but the receptionist didn't ask to see it, just told me to take a seat. She marked something on her list which I took to be my name.
Do you think I been a bit stupid in assuming that there was only one health clinic in a very small town centre? Would it have occurred to anyone else to double-check? Should I have believed the council chap who gave me directions, and would it have been rude to ask "Are you sure"? And what should I have asked the receptionist to make sure she didn't book me in for an appointment I didn't have?
If I've made a massive gaffe I'd like to know what it was so that I don't do it again
.
