to consider dyeing my hair because of what my 6 yo dd's friends are saying

My dd told me tonight that some kids in her class say her mum (me!) looks 'like a grandma' and 'looks 89' because of my hair. I'm only 39 (40 next month so looking old is a bit of a sensitive topic at the moment) and have undyed shoulder-length hair. It's pretty grey/white but my - much cooler than me - younger sister assures me it looks great. I like the colour but every so often do worry that it's making me look older than I am.
I do wear make-up and dress fashionably but am a bit overweight.
I asked my daughter if she wanted me to change the way I look and she said she likes me the way I am, which was lovely. However, I don't want her to be picked on because of me.
BTW this is my very first post but I've been lurking for about 3 years!

Easycare I know a 6 year old girl whise Mum is grey ( and pretty ) I do think it ages her. Perhaps it's you!

Ffs that sounded like you actually look 89 op. Didn't mean the of course but that kids say stuff that makes no bloody sense!!! Have Wine and Cake

I'm watching my mum grow out her hair colour. Her natural silver is much nicer and classier than the blonde she has been dyeing it for years. I've got quite a few grey hairs and I'm contemplating keeping my natural colour, but I'm not sure whether I can as it is a mix of dark brown and grey, so lots of contrast.

EasyCare, I'm also 39 and beginning to look at that next number a wee bit apprehensively. I've been dyeing my hair for years, battling the many gleaming white strands and trying to pretend I'm still fully brunette. Do you know what I did last Saturday? I stripped all the dye from my hair and have gone au natural for the first time in donkey's years.

My gleaming white hairs now provide gorgeous natural highlights which glitter in the sun. I'm truly looking like a special snowflake!

(And there wasn't quite as much white as I had feared - I had visions of looking like Cruella de Ville!)

You might be the only person showing your grey but that doesn't mean that you are the only one with grey hair, all those people with unnaturally shiny glossy hair or the bad dye jobs? Most of those will be grey as well. Lots of people start going grey in their 20s, at your age it is fine. If you were a man you'd be called a silver fox.

holly, as she's pretty I'll assume that's me, and ignore the ageing bit

thebody yes, kids just say it as it is. My younger dd who's 4 told me she's not friends with someone at her nursery because 'I don't like her face' Blush

Don't teach your daughter that people are allowed to criticise someone because of the way they look, get away with it & make that person feel so bad that they change themselves.

Teach her that it is those people who have the problem, not you & your hair.

Dying your hair depends on how you feel, not what some 6 year olds think.

That being said, I'm not brave enough to age gracefully. I'll be a dirty blonde/ light brown instead of grey.
