This time they are (yet again) trying to demonise Maxine Carr and turn her into a second Myra Hindley.

Doesn't wash with me.

She wasn't there when the kiddies were killed, she just provided an alibi for an abusive and controlling boyfriend who she thought couldn't have done what he did, then caved pretty quickly when she realised he had.

Apparently she has recently got married, "despite her past".

Err she got involved with a nutter without realising, made a big mistake, did her time and is getting on with her life.

I have no feelings for the woman either way but don't think she deserves this.

I really shouldn't read the Hate Mail should I?

OP posts:
GatoradeMeBitch · 27/05/2014 15:23

I don't know why she in particular attracts so much venom. Women who have actually killed don't draw so much public hate. It's not unreasonable to think she may have been very afraid of him - he was obviously capable of murder. I see her as a victim.

GatoradeMeBitch · 27/05/2014 15:26

I wonder if she'd get the same amount of sympathy if she didn't own a vagina?

She would get way more sympathy if she didn't own a vagina. A LOT of the vitriol against her is misogynistic. It has even spilled over to become an excuse to start witch hunts against other single women.

BubbleButt79 · 27/05/2014 15:29

Now that's a good one - poor old Maxine, she's a victim.....

No she's not, she's a vile human being who helped hide the fact two young, innocent girls had been kidnapped and killed.

I've read many things on mumsnet that I don't agree with and that have annoyed me, but this is by far the most stupid thing, and ridiculous thing, that I've seen written on this site - if ever the definition of YABU was to be written, the posts sympathising with this eveil woman could be used as an example.

Fuck me Angry

it really isn't - it's because she's an evil person who helped hide the kidnap and murder of innocent children - I really don't see why some people don't actually understand this.

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 15:32

i see her as a victim

What you see her dead like holly Wells and Jessica Chapman then?

Please don't compare this vile liar to these poor innocent children.

That's fairly disgusting isn't it.

NigellasDealer · 27/05/2014 15:33

I think the case should be re-opened anyway

unlucky83 · 27/05/2014 15:56

I read this story in the Sun (I think) it was lying around and I skim read it ....
(it had a page 3 - so must have been the Sun? and it page 3 was 'used' to encourage women to check their breasts for lumps - yeah rightHmm -anyhow)
I thought it was all a bit of a non story ...who really cares? She got married and? Seems like someone in her new husbands family sold the story - not a good start to a marriage...

I guess it does depend on how much you think she knew...if she did know she deserves the venom but
I always assumed she lied because she thought he was innocent... (and if he had been that would have actually speeded up the investigation - discounting an innocent party early)
and honestly how many of us in a relationship couldn't believe our OH was guilty of murder? and may well give them an alibi if they said I was in all night watching tv on my own
-and it was hardly well thought out as there must have been 100s of witnesses that saw her at a night club...which to me indicates she never thought the police would investigate it - which doesn't suggest she thought he was a serious suspect and it might be investigated.

Pumpkinpositive · 27/05/2014 16:56

it really isn't - it's because she's an evil person who helped hide the kidnap and murder of innocent children - I really don't see why some people don't actually understand this.

Because she didn't. At least not purposely. This was accepted by the courts. She served her time for providing a false alibi for someone she didn't believe was guilty of murder. She didn't persevere with the false alibi for any great length of time - she certainly didn't go to court and lie for him at the trial.

She should be allowed to live the rest of her life without the Daily Fail and co breathing down her neck.

And no, I don't have much sympathy for her. But neither do I understand all the pitchforking she is subjected to even 12 years after the fact.

thebodylovesspring · 27/05/2014 17:02

I am totally shocked at posters saying they would lie to protect their family members!! Over the double murder of 2 children? Ffs. Disgusting.

BarbarianMum · 27/05/2014 17:05

I have sympathy for her. Not because she went to jail - she deserved that - but for this ongoing vilification.

I can think of several women who have actually murdered children and whose names are never heard in the press.

OP you are unreasonable for reading the Mail.

SaucyJack · 27/05/2014 17:08

I agree with the OP and Pumpkin.

She was done for perverting the course of justice. That's it. She is not Grimsby's answer to Rose West.

She's served her time. Let her live the rest of her life in peace and save your bile for someone who deserves it. Like, I dunno, Huntley....?

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 27/05/2014 17:08

Maxine Carr was clearly in a terrifying EA relationship and was scared/pushed into providing an alibi, Huntley preyed on her when she was clearly vulnerable. These types of men hold complete power over their partners and whilst providing an alibi was in her self interest I don't believe she's a bad person, just a victim. She has served her time, and deserves to live a quiet life now in privacy. I absolutely loathe this demonisation the DM have over criminals who get out of prison, it's like they desperately want to see a blood bath everytime these people walk down the street, it's vile.

On the other hand I cannot imagine what those poor parents went through because of her lies. But I just can't get that cross about her, Huntley was brought to justice in the end and I believe the press should leave Maxine Carr well alone. I can't imagine those parents much want to read about her anyway.

vestandknickers · 27/05/2014 17:20

OP. Yes, you are being unreasonable for reading the Daily Mail which only ever peddles hate.

In this case though, while I agree the story is vindictive and unnecessary, I have little sympathy for Maxine Carr. She provided a false alibi in the murder case of two children. Doesn't matter how long she lied for or whether she believed him or not.

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 27/05/2014 17:32

I have no sympathy at all for that woman.

There might be conversation in that thought op but I'm now blinded by the above.

Gen35 · 27/05/2014 17:38

Sympathy aside, what about the notion that someone who's done their time and no longer the subject of police enquiries should be left alone by the press? I don't think she deserves mobbing.

Mozzereena · 27/05/2014 17:43

YANBU
I am sat in Costa and can see the headline on the cover of the Sun newspaper being read by the man opposite me.
How does peddling these stories help anyone but the newspapers making money out of it?
The family of the victims should not have to be reminded of Maxine Carr this way.
They are just out to wind people up and we, the taxpayers are the ones who have had to pay for her to be kept safe while these disgusting rags make a fortune winding up the mob!

unlucky83 · 27/05/2014 17:45

thebody would I lie for DP if I thought he'd murdered two children - no way.
Would I lie for DP if he might get a lot of hassle if I didn't because he hadn't got an alibi and I really believed no way was he involved - yes, probably.
And as I said if he had been innocent giving him an alibi, thus excluding him from the investigation promptly, would have saved police time and actually have speeded up the investigation...

hedwiggity · 27/05/2014 17:54

OP your off your rocker !! she lied to defend a guy she knew was violent IMHO she is as bad as he is. for her to get a new name a new life and a wedding when those poor girls who would be in their 20's like me and should be enjoying their lives and planning their weddings/babies will never get that chance and because of that "woman" those girls families had to endure the agony of not knowing what had happened to their babies that little bit longer !! she is a sick depraved human being and any man willing to marry her needs his head assessing .

shockinglybadteacher · 27/05/2014 20:03

She didn't think he'd done it and he told her he'd been in trouble with the law and he'd get "fitted up". Even the coppers said that she showed absolute shock when she realised that he actually was guilty.

If you've ever been in trouble with the law, you are wary from then on, and it probably didn't seem that implausible to her (believing in his innocence, and if she knows a few people who have had difficulties with the polis previously). A large factor in this as well is that she's not very bright, easily led and couldn't believe her DP would do something like that.

Was she stupid, yeah. Is she the devil, no.

I also find it creepy how Huntley, who actually did the crime, gets less hatred than she does.

Andrewofgg · 28/05/2014 13:18

Shockinglybadteacher the fact that she is female and that serious crime with a sex (and therefore newspaper-selling) angle is so rarely female makes her interesting to the tabloid press. Man bites dog and all that.

PeterParkerSays · 28/05/2014 13:51

I agree with OP and Pumpkin on this. She provided a false alibi and went to prison as a result but it was 12 years ago, why is this news now? Let the bloody woman get on with her life.

Had the Head teacher at the school in Soham not employed Huntley, he'd never have met either Carr or the children. Did he get ongoing crap about his poor recruitment choices?

I just don't see why this needs to be front page news now. She's not some ongoing risk to children, she lied for a shitty boyfriend and went to prison because of it. It's not even like the taxpayers paid for her £2k white dress sorry I happened to see yesterday's Sun headline on at a reception desk
