To insist my teenage dd stops drawing her eyebrows on

For my wedding day.
More of a I need advice than AIBU.
I'm getting married in six weeks. For the few months I have not been able to recognise my beautiful DD (18 yo) she has taken to shaving her eyebrows off and drawing them on, I understand that this is becoming the done thing but she really does look ridiculous, really dark, heavy eyebrows. Don't get me started on the caked on orange foundation and fake tan, but that I can overlook. The eyebrows are bad, really bad. She gets negative attention just walking down the street. She's refusing to have her make up done by anyone else on the day and refusing to tone them down. AIBU to not drop this? You can tell me if I'm being a Bridezilla I'm rather stressed right now!

Shaves her eyebrows?! Shaves them?!

Tell her to stop before she completely ruins the regrowth!

She's 18, you can't tell her not to although you can offer a beautician on the day or gently suggest that it's toned down for the ceremony and photos.

I'd maybe try copying her look for a few days too Wink

JamJimJam · 26/05/2014 20:35

Are teenagers doing this now? I thought HD brows were the ultimate abomination.

KoalaFace · 26/05/2014 20:37

I feel your pain. Really. But you can't insist on anything without going full on Bridezilla!

But you can find out whose look she admires and tell her you've found a makeup artist who specialises in the look and will treat her as its a big day. Or tell her you will take her to MAC (teenage girl heaven) for a makeover and treat her to some products. Hopefully the professionals can make her see sense!

Bearbehind · 26/05/2014 20:38

She obviously thinks it makes her look the best she can or she wouldn't do it.

It is a truly dreadful look, an acquaintance of mine does it, but there's not much you can do about it.

Itsfab · 26/05/2014 20:40

Over plucked eyebrows look awful. I assume it is the same for over shaved?...

Bearbehind · 26/05/2014 20:40

MAC makeover is a great idea, you get the cost of the makeover back if you put it towards buying products.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 26/05/2014 20:41

Is this a trend here in the UK now, drawing them on with a Sharpie? shudders I believe in the US it's called the "chola-look".

Nope, nothing you can do. If negative attention in the street won't persuade her to tone it down nothing you say will change her mind.

EverythingsDozy · 26/05/2014 20:41

There is a picture doing the rounds on the internet of a white sleeve with a clear eyebrow shape on it and the caption explains that one girl hit another girl in the face (by accident) with her sleeve and the eyebrow transferred! Would this be a deterrent? Grin

HecatePropylaea · 26/05/2014 20:44

Yeah, I am sure she does look ridiculous, but many of us have been through that phase. I won't bore you embarrass me with mine Grin

I think that you need to take a big breath and be ok with it. Yes, she looks daft, but she will grow out of it, the fashion will change, those ridiculous eyebrows and please god duckface pout will go the way of brown cord trousers and paisley shirts and photoshop is bloody fantastic too. Grin

So get a few pictures tweaked if you want to, keep the originals and remember that your wedding is really just a big party to celebrate your marriage and what matters is that your daughter will be there and it will be a happy day. Her eyebrows really don't matter.

When you're a grandma, you'll be showing the grandkids these pics of mum at your wedding and you'll all be howling with laughter. Pretty much as I am sure she could howl at a few of yours. I certainly love my mum's teenage pictures and I fully expect my kids will cringe at mine if I ever allow them to see them Grin
