to take another tablet

I started with thrush about 12 days ago. I took a fluconazole tablet and the symptoms started to go. It didn't go completely but was getting better with each day.

Now today (about 9 days after the symptoms started to go), they symptoms are starting to get worse again.

I have bought another fluconazole tablet and the leafet says the following

You should not take another capsule unless thrush recurs after seven days or more.

I really don't want to go to my doctor as about 5 years ago I had a bout that lasted a few weeks and I went to see my doctor who prescribed pessaries to be inserted at regular intervals and steroid creams. I ended up having problems due to the amount of medication I had had and spent a year and a half trying to get right again. I don't want that to happen again so am really trying to sort it out myself.

So should I take another???

It's been over seven days so I don't see why not?

I had problems before where the branded product didn't work but boots own did. Have no idea why as apparently both have the same ingredient and amount but with the branded one the thrush kept coming back but one dose of boots own and cleared up.

I have problems as allergic to most sanpro but obviously it's needed. I've tried mooncup but could feel it constantly and washable isn't for me.

Thanks for the replies. I just feel stuck between wanting to get rid of it asap by using medication but not wanting to make it worse by using the medication.

It sounds as though you need the cream as well as the tablet, because you might just keep reinfecting yourself.

Fine to take one more (they have a 90% success rate so it's not that unusual that it didn't work completely first time), provided you are otherwise fit & well and not pregnant. However, if it still doesn't clear up after that, you must see your GP to get checked out - it could be another diagnosis such as BV and, very occasionally, persistent thrush can indicate underlying health problems e.g. diabetes.

There is a theoretical risk that fluconazole could make the contraceptive pill less effective, so if you are on the combined pill (not mini-pill), use condoms as well to be absolutely on the safe side - in the unlikely event that you feel up to a night of passion while you've got thrush Wink.

Anyone [GP]

I had thrush which wouldn't go last year. Eventually in utter desperation I went to GP who took a Swab. She gave me the one off fluconozole tablet on alternate days for a week. I.e. 4 tablets (each a once only dose) over 7 days.
It worked thanks goodness. And I was fine.
Disclaimer: not recommended without prescription.

I was prescribed them for a few days when i couldn't get rid of it.
Iv also had too take a dose once a week in a fortnight as first dose didn't work.

The oral ones don't work for me, I have to use the pessary

Shonajay · 28/05/2014 08:38

Has your husband treated himself too?

Melonbreath · 28/05/2014 08:49

Take the tablet and down loads and loads of water, my pharmacist told me to drink loads of water and it does work

ShoeWhore · 28/05/2014 08:52

Didn't work for me either - GP gave me something more effective on prescription - bye bye thrush. I'd see your GP.
