To think we should vote on Sundays like the rest of Europe?

Our voter turnout in the euro elections may be as low as 25%.

That is atrocious for a democracy!

Aibu to think if we voted on Sundays more people would turn out?

I know of several people who didn't vote because it wasn't very practical for them to take the DCs out to vote in the evening after a long workday.

You'd think the politicians didn't want us to vote Hmm

YANBU. The voting should have been on the same day as the other EU elections. While we are in Europe. I don't agree with compulsory voting.

I didn't realise it was on Sundays in Europe.

I don't know if it would increase voting further.

I postal vote. Simply as it the easiest way for me to do so.

I'm in Sweden, it's mother's day today here not voting day. I don't know when voting day is as I voted in the UK by post.

PleaseJustShootMeNow · 25/05/2014 18:05

I stand corrected. I just looked it up and it is voting day here today. Can't see many turning out to vote on a beautiful sunny day when they have the whole day to spend with their mums and families.

Changing from a Thursday to a Sunday would not make any difference to voter numbers. People who want to vote, do vote. People who can't be bothered/don't want to/aren't interested will feel the same on all 7 days of the week.

Voting should not be compulsory, it's a right and should stay that way. It's a waste of money to chase up people who don't want to vote.

Here in Sweden you could vote all week in libraries, the official day was today.

It's also mothers day so we have seen quite a few family members, everyone had or was going to vote.

We vote on Saturdays in NZ. I found it much better. Last Thursday DH was away so it was just me and DD. I left for work and drop DD at nursery at 8am. I don't arrive at the nursery until nearly 6. Then I have one hour to cook dinner, eat it and then put DD to sleep at 7. Then it is me stuck in the house because DD is in bed. I'm 23 weeks pregnant and no one I could survive without food until after 8 (ie cook after DD gone to bed). I couldn't have left earlier either since I'm already up at 6am just to get out in time!

It's the first time I missed voting in my life. We managed the last few times with DD by going just after nursery. But then DH would have helped with the food and I wasn't pregnant with a toddler.

So YABU.
