to be annoyed at not being able to get children's shoes and socks

I tried to buy DS (10) some shoes and socks today, none of the children's shoes or socks on sale in 4 different shops went up to his size so I've had to buy adult's trainers for him! The socks are 4-6 so I hope they fit his 6 1/2 feet or the alternative is men's size 6-11 which are going to swamp him. Surely shops expect boys to have larger than 6 1/2 feet before they want adult shoes!

M&South do do colourful character type men's socks. I buy them for dh because I let dd choose for him Grin

*M&S

I wear men's socks for work as I have size 8 feet and ladies ones only go to a 7. I got ones that have sensible black tops for work, but have characters from the muppets on the feet.

ASDA and NEXT do funky socks in large size 6-8 mens
DS1 is size 7 and almost 30yrs old and I always buy him some for christmas and birthday

And I have the opposite problem, having size 4 feet even some size 4-7 socks are too big and get given to DD1 (who has 5.5-6 sized feet) so never has any sock issues and can still get kids boots in Jones.

Although being 16, she may get a dirty look next year.

Nocomet · 24/05/2014 17:49

Although why she should have to pay VAT when she's still in compulsory education in her case (or compulsory apprenticeships that I assume will pay peanuts) I don't know.

The whole charging adult prices for 16y now they aren't allowed just to leave school and get a job is a whole different thread.

My 10yo dd has size 5.5 feet. Next go up to a 7, so do M&S, and debenhams go up to a 6, but their sizes are generous. Clarks go up to a 10 for school shoes I think. (But only a 5.5 for sandals. Complained to shop assistant and she said to contact clarks and ask for bigger sandals. If enough people asks then they may do some!!

Gah.

OP you have my sympathy.

I have size 2 feet and as a professional female have the joyous task of finding appropriate footwear that fits. though it does justify my jimmy choo and louboutin collection at least

Doh...stupid phone!

I had a right chew this week finding size 13 shoes for ds... Ended up in shoezone in the end.

He had Clarks but they absolutely fell to bits so couldn't be bothered going there and spending a fortune again.

crazykat · 24/05/2014 20:18

It's the same for girls. My dniece was in size 6 shoes at 10 and now in size 7 at 11. Shes tall for her age at 5' 5".

Shoes and clothes are a nightmare finding appropriate styles for their age that fit properly.

I know there has to be a cap to children's size goes and clothes but its rubbish when they want the same style shoes/clothes as their friends but need adult sizes.
