To wonder why Florida is seen as the ultimate family holiday?

A family we know are spending £10k on a summer holiday to Disney, and that's not even in a Disney hotel. Several other friends cite Florida/Disney as the ultimate family holiday of a lifetime, it seems to be the holiday to aspire to, giving your children wonderful memories.

I can't visualise it myself. All I can see is heat, humidity, long queues, toddler tantrums, exhaustion from the plane and time difference. It doesn't sound magical! What is it that makes the experience worth £10k? Or Aibu to think that maybe it's not all it's cracked up to be?

Can't comment on Florida but Eurodisney was fantastic when we went a couple of years ago so can see the appeal of it on a bigger scale.
DD's reaction to meeting Mickey was priceless.

I think there is something for everyone in Florida, unless you need gothic architecture.

Oh we have that, too. Well, it's Carpenter Gothic, a particularly American form of Gothic revival. I was married in a Carpenter Gothic church. Smile

I went twice as a child age 6 and 10. It was amazing, so magical and I have memories I'll never forget! The second time we went with my grandmother who died a year after so that was extra special! Our holiday were about half the price of that and it was amazing. Other than that we had a holiday home in Spain we went to every year which meant I could take friends away so my holidays were always quite fun! But Disney definitely stands out and is definitely something I want my kids to experience!

Been pricing up holidays this week.

It is working out cheaper for us to spend a fortnight going to Florida than it is for a fortnight in the south of France. The villas with pools in southern France are so expensive!
