I'm not a labour supporter so don't often feel sorry for him but was on holiday this week and so watched GMTV (or whatever its called these days) and the presenter asked him how much the average family spent on groceries each week and he said "we spend £70 or £80 at least" then the presenter said the average family of 4 spend at least £100 and made him out to be really out of touch. Well i'm not sure of Ed's family size and we're only a family of 3 and i spend about £60 to £70 a week on shopping so i didn't think his estimate was too unrealistic. Now i'm back from holidays and just catching up on my recorded emmerdale episodes and they keep replaying this clip in the breaks to demonstrate how out of touch he is. i'm thinking its a case of 'dammed whatever he says'. If asked the same questions and he said 'yes me and the family spend an average of £150 per week' i can't see that having gone down any better.

Good points WetAugust. But the point is that it's all about perception. Nigel Farage seems a nice down to earth person and Ed Milliband seems a bit elite and removed from the ordinary person. It really doesn't matter whether this is true or not it's how it appears. Labour must get rid of Milliband if they are to have any chance. He's a disaster.

The whole Labour party is a disaster. Ed Balls for Chancellor - I think not!

And Balir and Kinnock are now managing their offspring into very working class constituencies.

Whole thing stinks

I couldn't give a fig about whether or not prime ministers or shadow PMs know the exact price of a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread.

I doubt Churchill did.

I'd prefer them to spend their time thinking about bigger issues, such as our future in Europe/Syria/Ukraine.

I['m no Labour supporter but I think it was pathetic to lambast Miliband.

His estimate sounds about right to me. I imagine they eat out more than most families so will spend less on groceries. He obviously buys food, seeing as his family are alive and he's not a millionaire. I don't see the issue.

I don't care what Miliband eats, how much he spends on it or what he looks/sounds like. I just want the Labour Party to stand for something- spineless twats!!!!!!
