Do you think this is rude?

I got my eyebrows threaded today.

When I sat down, the lady asked me if I wanted my chin and neck doing as well as 'I had noticeable hair!'

I have a hairy face! Sad (I am fair haired so it's not all that noticeable.)

Still is this rude ... Or AIBU?

I would not have liked it - but she was more likely trying to get more money out of you rather than be offensive!

Bowlersarm · 23/05/2014 15:30

I'm not sure that it was rude exactly. If facial hair is her job, as it were, she was commenting professionally? I think I would want to know, and maybe have something done about it, if it were me.

dexter73 · 23/05/2014 15:33

I don't think it is rude. As Bowlersarm said, she is commenting professionally.

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 23/05/2014 15:34

Nah, she's trying to drum up extra business.

Every extra hair (real or imagined by her) is extra cash.

I doubt you're hairy.

partialderivative · 23/05/2014 15:34

Not rude. Just a professional observation. And a chance for her to make a bob or two more for the day.

SisterMoonshine · 23/05/2014 15:34

As it's her job, it'll be such a matter of fact, normal thing and not an issue.

ive had this happen to me also, the lady appeared to look like she was making a helpful suggestion, not being mean. I however spent the next few days glaring into mirrors at my 'hairy' face. I think however they ask everyone, so although i know it seems a bit rude( and i took it to heart) they are just trying to drum up more business

CoffeeTea103 · 23/05/2014 15:35

Not rude agree with the others.

WorraLiberty · 23/05/2014 15:36

Not rude as it's her job

A bit tactless though

WeeClype · 23/05/2014 15:40

She's just trying to get more money.

I got my eyebrows waxed on the Wednesday and went back on the Saturday for eyelash extensions.....she asked if I wanted my eyebrows sorted aswell Confused.

cutefluffybunnes · 23/05/2014 15:40

Not rude at all - you've come to the salon to have facial hair removed, and she is pointing out more facial hair you may possibly want removed. Just her job.

whynowblowwind · 23/05/2014 16:04

Well, yes - I'm NOT hairy, though! Grin

More business makes sense :)

I don't think it's rude, I get this all the time. I think it's probably that traditionally Asian threading is often done on the whole face, neck and back etc. it is probably just what the person threading is trained to provide.

MintyChops · 23/05/2014 16:44

I got this a few weeks ago but she offered to do. My upper lip and chin, the shame!!!!!

EasyWhiteChocolate · 23/05/2014 16:47

They always say it. Not just to me either - I'm not massively hairy! The ladies in my shop say it to everyone.

SlimJiminy · 23/05/2014 16:49

Definitely looking for more business. I'd be a bit miffed. I get my bits waxed regularly and have never been asked if I want my legs doing too even though they're normally fairly hairy when I go as I save them as a treat so everything's smooth at the same time Just get the job done and if I want any extras I'll ask for them thank you.

RedRoom · 23/05/2014 17:53

It is a bit tactless, but if you are a bit hairier than you think you are then maybe once the sting from her comment has passed it might be helpful? (I'm just trying to find something positive to say!)

morethanacondiment · 23/05/2014 17:57

I only tip the ones who don't say it. I appreciate there's no point to this as I don't tell them my rule

Kt1991 · 23/05/2014 17:59

I had the exact same thing happen to me too when I first had mine threaded! I thought it was rude. I have a bit of hair on my face too, but don't expect someone to point it out to me! Guess its a sly way of getting more money!

Standinginline · 23/05/2014 18:01

I've had so many people say they were asked the same thing when they went to get their eyebrows threaded / waxed ; as everyone has said ,she was just out to get a few bob and knows how sensitive some women can be.

serendippity · 23/05/2014 18:04

I had my brows threaded 2 days before my wedding day, the threader knew this (I was telling everyone at that point ) and Still told me I needed my top lip threading as It was hairy. I did feel that was rude and was quite upset! Looking back tho, I don't think it was, it is just a way to make more money for them. Upselling and all that. Don't worry, I'm sure you're fine.

Longdistance · 23/05/2014 18:08

Not rude imo. I have a great Eastern European tash, I always get asked if I want it removed. I say no as it fucking hurts as I dye it.
