to change driving instructors because car is filthy

I've been learning to drive now since end of last year, spent quite a lot of money. I have my test booked for next wednesday.
Driving lessons are £25 an hour or £210 for a block of 10 hours I always have 2 hours together,

A few months ago instructor got a brand new car and by the looks of it he hasn't cleaned it once there is dust and grime all round the dials, food crums in the gear stick the mat under feet is always stuck up and covered in crap,
I'm not scared of germs but I have issues with things being messy and out of place, he's a nice chap but AIBU to think that if you spend this much money then the instructor should have a clean car?
If I don't pass next week I'm tempted to go somewhere else would this be silly?

Yes he should, he is using it for business purposes so should make sure the car is clean for learners.

MsVestibule · 23/05/2014 10:58

YANBU. It is his place of work, he should keep it clean unlike my tip of a car. Do you have a good relationship with him? Is he the type of person you could speak to about it? He probably just doesn't notice it, or if he does, doesn't realise it could be an issue for his clients. You'll probably be doing him a favour by pointing it out, but it would be a bit of an awkward conversation!

Good luck for your test Flowers.

YANBU - my best friend is a driving instructor and her car is immaculate. She cleans it thoroughly every week, it would be very unprofessional for it to be dirty plus to be it would indicate that if he has no pride in his car then he isn't really a keen instructor.

Nomama · 23/05/2014 11:03

Yickety!

Change instructors - and tell him why!

orangepudding · 23/05/2014 11:06

My driving instructor kept a very clean car. He felt it was his professional duty to do so.

MissMilbanke · 23/05/2014 11:07

Definitely you don't have to sit in all his mess especially at those prices.

Tell him exactly why you are leaving him

Sandancer · 23/05/2014 11:14

Yanbu. I'd be embarrassed if I was him, especially when the car is used as a business.
My instructor was rude, he used to make me drive him to Greggs and would eat pasties during my lessons. The car stunk and was covered in crumbs! I had already block booked 10 lessons and passed my test after that but I would have never have gone back with him if I'd failed.

emms1981 · 23/05/2014 11:15

Thanks, I've just kind of been pushed along buying blocks of lessons I think had I been buying them a week at a time I probably would have gone somewhere else by now. He also talks a lot about his family etc when I just want to drive. I'm tempted to take a packet of wet wipes with me lol

I would! That's lazy

CanaryYellow · 23/05/2014 11:19

If you don't pass next week then yes, go elsewhere, and tell him why.

It's effectively his mobile office and whether he likes it or not, he is creating an immediate impression. Dirty, sloppy, no pride in his work. Not what I'd want from a driving instructor.

I did an intensive driving course and had a really skanky instructor+car - I wish I'd complained and got a different one - I might have done a bit better! (Mine's car stank of cigarettes, and a self-confessed 'dodgy tummy' from him dirty windscreen, food wrappers, and frankly he smelt of sweat and his clothes weren't clean, and he always stopped at least once during the lesson to 'go for a pee' behind a bush. etc etc - utterly grim. I did complain when I finished the course but am cross with myself that I didn't do it earlier, I just knew that that all the other instructors were being used by other pupils that week and put up with it - I was an idiot!

I now have a female instructor and her car is immaculate and she is immaculately turned out (although that doesn't really bother me, but its noce that she dresses in a smart neat and professional manner)

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2014 11:18

Errrr kurri he sit ds utterly rank, yuck Envy

oh lord, I wonder what you would all think of mine. dirty farm truck complete with 'country' smells, brought a dead sheep back in it last week and just hosed it out Blush

Icimoi · 26/05/2014 08:31

It depends. Is he a good instructor?
