I know why so much media attention and money is spent on searching for the young people lost in a yacht in the Atlantic, but when the 21 abducted Nigerian schoolgirls seem to have been forgotton, I find it sickening. After all, the sailors knew they were running a risk, all the girls wanted was an education.

The British media will show news re the men as they are British and have family and friends here.

I have seen loads of stories on the poor girls. I do wonder like of media mention at the moment is because There are things you don't going on behind the screens.

The men are lost and need rescuing, the girls need careful discussion with the horrible men who taken them. Hope all are found and returned safely to their families along with those lost in the plane

You seem to have missed a 0 off the number of abducted schoolgirls. But in my view you are being unreasonable. It hasn't dropped out of the news completely but, from the media's point of view, there isn't any significant news to report. The girls haven't been found and there have been no demands from the kidnappers. The UN Security Council has approved sanctions against Boko Haram but as these are unlikely to have any real effect that is hardly headline news. People would soon get fed up with the news running a story every day saying, in essence, that there was no news about the abducted schoolgirls.

The yachtsmen, on the other hand, are from the UK (unlikely they would be in the news at all otherwise) and there are still regular developments to report.

It is the same with any long running story - MH370, Madeleine McCann and so on. The story hits the headlines when it breaks then gradually moves down the running order until it drops off altogether, only reappearing when there are significant developments.

Have been for quite some time. Even DD cycles through France 24, Al Jazeera and CNN for the morning's news over the BBC or Sky.
