To be worried about DS?

Hi, this is my first post on here but I have been lurking for a long time. I apologise in advance for the length of this but didn't want to miss anything out. I was wondering if anybody would be able to shed any light on wether I am being reasonable or not in terms of DS1 (15) as my partner things I am stressing over nothing

Basically he has been feeling quite ill for a number of months now. It has been nothing particularly specific but he's been complaining of dizziness, aches and pains, difficulty with his balance (which is noticeable) and more recently he's been complaining that one of his eyes is really blurry. They are all on and off symptoms and are not there constantly.

Anyway we have been to the doctors numerous times and initially nobody was really concerned. He had blood tests which were clear and there were suggestions of it being stress or psychological and i wasn't particularly worried as neither were the doctors.

Anyway it has been getting gradually worse (i.e. symptoms are worse and staying on for longer) but at the same time he has been having problems with his dad (DH is his stepdad) and also with my mum (long story) which, if it is caused by stress, could be contributing to it.

He came home from school last Thursday upset because he wasn't feeling well so i rang the doctors and got him friday morning. Anyway we saw a doctor we hadn't seen before and he did a few tests with DS such as touching the doctors finger and things and he really struggled with him. At this point the doctor seemed quite concerned and said he wanted him to be referred to the neurologist at the hospital and it was an emergency so we would have to go that day.

To cut a long story short we didn't go as the doctor later phoned and said that the neurologist himself didn't think it was urgent so we would get a ref feral through the post. We still haven't go it but now i'm really worried about DS. DH thinks that as the neurologist didn't think it was urgent then he should be okay and the tests are basically 'just in case' but the doctor was really apologetic over the phone and says that DS needs seeing to ASAP. I am being unreasonable to think it could be something serious?

Is there any chance your G.P could refer you via the private route because in your position i think i'd pay for a speedy initial consultation.

Sorry to hear that, personally I would take him to a and e, not right now but maybe tomorrow, then there are drs there that can have a good look at him and refer to neurologist if necessary and they won't send you home without giving him a proper looking at,
Really hope he's ok Thanks

I've found the best way to get things looked at is by getting your self in to a and e x

Without wishing to scare you, take him for an eyetest. My cousin had similar symptoms and was told by gp allwas ok, went for a routine eeyetest and they found a tumour. Not saying it is that obviously but could be oneway of ffinding out if anything is off?

JSG07 · 23/05/2014 00:03

I have no experience of the symptoms but I would say that as a mother - go with your instinct. After all, it's always better to get checked out and then feel silly because you didn't need to than take the risk.
The a&e idea is a bit naughty but a good one. You could say he's suddenly had very severe symptoms?
Anyway, hope he's feeling much better soon x

ziggy how are things? Flowers

Don't do this. Unless they find a serious symptom that your GP missed, they will just send him home and tell you to wait for the appointment. They don't encourage the use of A&E to skip waiting lists.

The eye test would be a good next step. Especially as they will be open over the weekend. Book back in to GP monday morning.
