To think Dads dirty protest won't even register?

Its polling day and my father is intending on expressing his disapproval of the policies of all major parties by voting UKIP in protest.
He doesn't believe in their policies, just wants to stand and be counted as not being happy with the choices on offer.
I think if UKIP win a considerable portion of votes the other parties will just take it as an excuse to get more right wing (all of them).

AIBU to think if he wants to register a dirty protest he should just shit in a bag and put that in the box along with his polling card rather than this?

Err, YABU, a vote for UKIP has to be better than some poor volunteer coming across your fathers excrement.

If your father is particularly left wing, then it would seem odd to choose UKIP as a protest vote, if he's not then I can see where he's coming from. Either way, it's his vote to do with what he wants.

A vote for UKIP isn't a protest vote - it's a vote for a party with misogynist, racist and economically disastrous policies. If he wants to spoil his vote as a protest, this isn't the way to do it.

IAmNotAMindReader · 22/05/2014 18:08

Let me clarify OBVIOUSLY it is unacceptable to crap in a bag as a vote (can't believe that was taken as a serious suggestion rather than an expression of exasperation. I mean how would it fit for a start?)
Yes spoiling the vote would send a clearer message especially if he expressed why on the form.

This. I think your father is being stupid.

OwlCapone · 22/05/2014 18:09

Even the European ballot paper didn't fit in the box without folding it in half. A bag of shit (which probably describes UKIP nicely) certainly wouldn't fit.

Isn't the slot a little too small to get an entire bag of shit in there? Grin

Why not just stay home and refuse to vote? He's going to throw it away anyway. Why suffer through the lines and hassle?

nachohousekeeper · 22/05/2014 18:11

I had the same very frustrating conversation with my Dad.

PrincessBabyCat · 22/05/2014 18:12

The only people that are going to read that are the grunt workers counting the votes. I doubt his comments are going to be forwarded to the powers that be.

Afraid I have to disagree with you there WooWoo [sort of] lighthearted.

Totally agree with Natasha 'None of the above' is a better option. A vote for UKIP is a vote for UKIP...they won't frigging care whether it was registered in protest or not.

OwlCapone · 22/05/2014 18:17

Seriously though, you should never vote for a party whose policies you disagree with. There is always the chance they will be voted in and you will be partly to blame.

IAmNotAMindReader · 22/05/2014 18:20

My point precisely but nope his mind's made up. I don't understand it.

Oddly enough, I didn't really think you were actually suggesting it would be a good idea to crap in a bag and put it in a ballot box.

Toadinthehole · 22/05/2014 19:59

The Euro elections don't affect who makes our laws. They are just glorified opinion polls. Who cares who your father votes for, as long as he's not registered to vote in Newark, where a real election is taking place.
