To think legoland Windsor is that bad.

DS has been nagging for years to go, we have sold something's that he no longer wants and have raised enough to go.

Reviews seems to be bad.

I don't want him to be disappointed.

Is it as bad as the reviews going in 2 weeks

I got a great deal 2 days for the price of 1.

I have noticed a lot of water type things, so what do you suggest the DC wear

Oh right ok Flip. Do the people that don't have them tut when you rejoin the queue?

MooseyMouse · 21/05/2014 20:14

It's a bloody nightmare. Never, ever again.

Go to Gulliver's Land in Milton Keynes or for a truly magical day go to Bewilderwood in Norfolk.

Never, ever, ever again...

MooseyMouse · 21/05/2014 20:15

Uh oh - just seen you've booked it. Hope you have a good time.

FlipFlopWaddle · 21/05/2014 20:15

No, you go in separately. I didn't notice any tuts.

McSmoke · 21/05/2014 20:22

We went on a beautiful day, but it was empty as storms were forecast. The children enjoyed it more than Disney (though everyone I've said that too have been incredulous.).

Worriedkat · 21/05/2014 20:28

moosey what went wrong on your visit?

Places like paultons, crealy and gullivers are a fraction of the price. On the legoland website the pricier qbots are £70 per person, that's on top of entry! What on earth is in legoland that you can't get elsewhere?

Sunnymeg · 21/05/2014 20:31

If you visit, get to the bottom of the park as soon as you can and then work your way back up. You will be going against the flow of most of the traffic and the queues will be shorter. Go on an inset day if at all possible.

mychildrenarebarmy · 21/05/2014 20:31

I wouldn't worry about wearing anything in particular because of the water rides but I would definitely take 2 or 3 changes of clothes and nip out to the car to change if you need to.

We weren't blown away by it and felt it was massively over-priced for adults at normal rate. The children loved it though.

superbagpuss · 21/05/2014 20:32

we had DC in shorts and t shirt and took swimming things and towel in bag, then they could do the splash area in swimming things and change back into normal clothes so they weren't too uncomfortable

CrockedPot · 21/05/2014 20:33

We went last year and all loved it. Ds1 cried when we left on the second day because he loved it so much. We did get a deal though, the on the door prices are extortionate. Will definitely go again.

Ronmione · 21/05/2014 20:37

Pre buy your parking ticket as the queues are long at the end of the day.

Humphreyhamster · 21/05/2014 20:37

We went last Friday and Saturday. Friday was pretty quiet but Saturday was far busier but still not too bad.

my DCs are 4 and 6 and they had a ball. The Pirate show is amazing and comes on at 12 so get there early and eat a picnic whilst watching it.

The splash park looked ace although my 2 didn't want to go in Sad You'd need to take swimwear for that. There are a couple of rides which involve getting wet but again, neither of mine wanted to go on those!

We took our own food so can't comment on what the parks food is like I'm afraid.

We booked our tickets online as they're doing buy one day, get one free. We also paid parking online too as the queues for the parking machines are apparently horrendous at the end of the day. Parking was £4/day in the standard car park and we got there for 9:30 am so parked really close. The park opens at 10 am but they let you in from 9:30 onwards although you can't get to any of the rides - we didn't realise this and had to queue inside the park until 10 but it still meant we were amongst the first in.

There is a lot of walking involved we found and even after the second day I still struggled to get my bearings which isn't really like me.

oh and we also went into the Imaginext theatre to watch the 4 show - that was really impressive and as the weather was so hot it was lovely to just get inside for half an hour. We found that there isn't much way of avoiding the sun there, so be prepared when queuing.

Didn't really encounter much in the way of long queues though, I think the longest we queued was for 30 mins for the digger challenge on the Saturday.

We also left the park before it shut to avoid the traffic, turning right at the roundabout on the way out is quicker than turning left apparently although traffic was fine for us.

I think your 8 yo will love it, I'd happily go back but DO, who hates queues and people Hmm says no way!!

Jeezimacasalinga · 21/05/2014 20:37

We've had annual passes for the last 3 years and our 3 kids absolutely love it. Biggest piece of advice I can give is to get there as it opens, and head for the rides at the back of the park first, then work your way around. Queues will be really minimal if you go this early. We aim to get there for opening and are usually leaving at 1.30, by which time the place is absolutely heaving...

ICanSeeTheSun · 21/05/2014 20:42

Thanks for the tips, dreading it as DS is ASD.

He hasn't got a clue we are going, I can't wait to see his face.

BarbarianMum · 21/05/2014 20:59

If he has ASD then I'm sure there is a scheme under which you/he won't have to queue at all. Can't remember how it works but post on the SN children section and I'll bet someone there will know.

windchime · 21/05/2014 21:02

Legoland Windsor is built on the site of the old Windsor Safari Park. It stinks of animal shite in hot weather. Also, it is built on the side of a very very steep hill. I am amazed no-one ever mentions this. Pushing a pram up that hill is a real challenge. The food is crap and very expensive. The queues are much too long and boring for small children. It really isn't worth the bother.

Ilovexmastime · 21/05/2014 21:10

Definately get a qbot, and book them in advance, we didn't last year and they had run out of them by the time we got in and so had to queue for bloody hours... We only went on two rides in the end. Having said that, my two DSs still had a great time, they were 7&8.

Ronmione · 21/05/2014 21:12

I'm sure if your ds has AS then you would be able to get the thing where you dont queue but go to the exit and get on the rides there.

MisForMumNotMaid · 21/05/2014 21:20

If you have medical paperwork for your DS showing his ASD diagnosis then if you take it with you and your whole group to guest services, just to the right of the entrance gates, they will issue you with a ten ride pass. You all get your hands stamped (all the group) and the disabled group member has a different colour (you can have this on your hand too if the stamp is a bit too much for them to take).

You then get to go on ten rides via the exit gate as a group. The ten ride pass thing has little rip off tags that you hand over at each ride.

If you get their at about 9.45 everyone can go to freshen up, then get your pass and be into the park as soon as things get going at 10am.

You can use the hill train via the exit as many times as you want using your hand stamp, without handing over a ride ticket.

We found that some of the exits weren't wide and people leaving the ride had to brush passed you which DS found distressing. On some like the boat driving school the Qbots use the exit too so when it gets busy you're almost in competition.

Various rides are very wet, the log flume has spray guns as you travel around so you're guaranteed to be wet. We invested in some £3 ebay waterproof trousers for DS as he likes the ride but not being wet.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 21/05/2014 21:23

We loved it. But would only do it with a Q Bot.

Gumps · 21/05/2014 21:36

I have two lego crazy sd and merlin passes and we go all the time. I love it. It's my favourite of the merlin parks and in fact I'm going tomorrow!
However we rarely do the rides as we have befn there do often. We do the 4d cinema, mini land, pirate show, duplo playground, hero factory, Star Wars, water park and pirate playground. None of these things have queues and fill the whole day :)
The thing which always has the longest queue is the driving school so if your ds is desperate to do this head there first.
You can Defo get the passes for ASD as my friend has gone this with her son.
Have a fantastic time.

I have a merlin pass & take my 18 month old regularly. We both love it!

onedev · 21/05/2014 22:01

We've been a few times & loved it. Definitely take the paperwork for your son as you should get to jump the queues. Enjoy Grin
