To feel that there is something totally back-to-front with this Walk to School Week business?

Ds walks to school every day. This week is Walk to School Week, and every child who walks to school every day this week will recieve a reward onFriday. But this week ds has an appointment, which means that he will arrive by car tomorrow.

So ds, who normally walks to and from school every day, gets no reward. The kids who normally drive to school every day will get a reward for only driving home.

I didn't say anything about this to ds. But he's no fool, he worked it out for himself, and he is Not Pleased.

mumofthemonsters - ah, I'm not worried :) Fortunately our school is very sensible about all of these things and doesn't do stuff to make the kids feel bad for what are their parents' choices. I'm more amused that it has coincided with possibly the worst week for me physically of the whole sodding school year!

It does! Even worse, walking to school has been a year-long push in our county with tick-charts, badges, etc. dunno if it's the same in other LAs? Luckily, these three kids are brilliant and very mature. One quick word at the start of the year and they made it quite clear they weren't that fussed and it was one of those things. Even so, an ill thought out scheme in my opinion!

Every other week my DH works a shift pattern that requires me to take DS to school, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday I also work. I'm fortunate in that my boss turns a blind eye to me strolling in 10 minutes late on these occasions.

If I was to walk DS to school, then walk home, then drive back past his school to get to work, I would be over half an hour late and my boss would be pissed off.

We do walk the few minutes from a supermarket car park, rather than fight the battle of the badly-parked idiots though!

Your DS sounds lovely Six Smile It seems really unfair on your DS, but he seems really mature in dealing with it.

I have a DS in Yr 7, DD in Yr2 and DS in YrR, and I have never even heard of Walk to School Week Confused

Like some though, I have a joint problem that means I have no option but to drive some days even though we only live 10 mins walk away, or I am going straight on to work afterwards.

I loved the walk to school when kids were at primary. The kids would usually bump into friends on the way or take their scooters, sometimes the village would organise a walking bus.

My kids don't walk to school now they are at secondary.
