I listen to Radio Berkshire in the mornings.

This morning a couple had contacted the Station to say they had unexpectedly found out they were expecting twins already 30 weeks into the pregnancy.

They said they hadn't had time to buy anything so could the listeners 'donate'. There was a big drive going on for this 'poor shocked family'.

AIBU to think lots of people don't buy anything until the last 10 weeks or so? We didn't. I was stabby.

If you've already had 2 children then twins may be easier (maybe... still doubling the size of the brood) but my colleague is not only having to replace a perfectly serviceable single buggy with a twin buggy, she's having to buy a new car because you can't fit 2 car seats and a toddler car seat in the back of theirs!

Ach, maybe I'm being soft but I just sympathise with anyone being surprised by twins - particularly this couple who didn't know they were pregnant at all!

Yes, i am a twin mum. First babies so no hand me downs. Ebay buggy, ikeas cheapest cots, super market vests etc, charity shop stuff by the ton. Although people go mad with presents for twins so clothes are the east of what you need. The only unavoidable cost i faced were doubled nappy costs. Its easy to keep cost down with a bit of common sense.

I think it's fair enough and quite smart actually.

Imagine finding out you were having 2 kids with around 6 weeks to go, and had nothing prepared with potentially no money?

Are these their first?

Hell, I'd donate nappies if I was local, I've got loads of half empty packs DS has grown out of. Might donate them to food bank actually if they will take open ones.

I hope the couple know that they get a fair few retail discounts, discounts for joining tamba etc if they ring up.

Now I've never been pg so I am happy to be corrected here, but surely is is pretty hard to get to 30 weeks without getting a bit suspicious, less so with twins surely?

slithytove · 29/05/2014 00:39

One would think Pipbin, but evidently it can and does happen.

I know a woman who went to term with a singleton, went to hospital with stomach (labour) pains, and came home with a gorgeous baby boy.

She was prone to irregular periods anyway, and was hugely overweight. There was no discernible difference in her size before and after being pregnant. She also had an anterior placenta cushioning kicks.

I have had 2 anterior placentas and one posterior, and the former really really does cushion the kicks.

I think that's awful. But more fool the people donating.
