Police taking away panic alarm

IscreamUscream · 20/05/2014 19:25

It was a relief when the police installed a panic in my home,I have it by my bed instead of a crow bar and hammer. Due to being classed as high risk dv from exp. The police have rang today and told me that they are going to take the panic alarm back because it has been with me for three weeks and nothing has happened.
Aibu to feel nervous as I felt it was giving me some reassurance in feeling a bit safer. They will be putting a flag on my address should I need them

3 weeks! I thought u were going to say 3 years or something which is a good amount of time for nothing to happen but 3 weeks is no time at all, i think u have every right to feel nervous. Is there any way u can extend the time u can keep it?

Do you have a burglar alarm? Some systems include panic alarms. We have one by our bed and one by the front door which are part of the system. They were installed about 14 years ago and have never been used until a couple of months ago when 17 year old ds tried to plug a phone charger into one ...... Very effective - we had police banging on the door and window within minutes. Is that something you could explore?

Three weeks doesn't seem long to decide that you don't need it.

It's a limited resource though. Many other women may need it

Will have to start saving up for a burglar alarm. Yes I agree many other women may need the same protection of a panic alarm as it comes down to funding how long they can let women have it for.
I'm just really nervous of the situation and will go back to having the crow bar by my bed.

I know it is tempting but please do not keep anything that could be used as a weapon about your person or by your bed, these things can very easily be used against you. Your own nails, teeth, fists and legs cannot and can still cause enough pain to anyone threatening you. Alternatively how about a very bright torch or an air horn?
Very sorry you are in this situation and I hope you are safe.

Are the Police able to use discretion? have you told them about your fear and given them an outline of ongoing risk?
Three weeks seems minimal.

I have to disagree about just using your legs to fight someone - really! I have a baseball bat upstairs with me. If someone is coming up the stairs in the middle of the night they are likely to have something on them and not just having a look around...

My fingernails just won't do it.

It's for the immediate aftermath of a split.... That's when a woman is in most danger
