AIBU to think that 40 minutes in the loo is not normal?

Name changed for obvious reasons.

DS is nearly 13. At home he can easily take 15 or 20 minutes in the loo when he's taking a dump. Sometimes he's reading Time Out, but most of the time he's just doing his business. There's no books, phones or other tech allowed in the loo. His dad always took a long time in the loo, so I didn't think anything of it.

He goes to school by himself, but I often collect him. Today he was 40 minutes late out of the gates because he's spent 40 mins in the loos, having a dump. He was a bit surprised at my cries of "Forty minutes in the loo? FORTY MINUTES?!!" when he did eventually emerge.

He doesn't appear to have either diarrhoea or constipation. That's just how long it takes.

...is this normal?

My dh has been known to watch whole dvd's on the throne. Drives me beyond nuts.

Sitting too long, particularly on the toilet, can increase the pressure on the veins in the anus.

Unfortunately there is a reason I have had to research this [Daily Mail Sadface]

"..DH says he's going to go and "try" for a poo, bit weird you either need a poo or you dont..."

Quite!Confused People don't usually try for a pee when they don't need to go (unless just off on a long car journey without toilet stops for example) but so many do the weird trying for a poo thing. It's been suggested on here that when men do it it's to get out of having to help their wives/partners with the children and housework. Just off for a very long skive shit while the little woman does everythingHmm

DH has IBS. He spends at least half an hour in the loo, 40 minutes is normal for him. He goes about 4 times a day. I know he can't help it. I do. But sometimes, just sometimes, I could cry with frustration at how much time it takes. Plus we only have one toilet and a 2yo and 7yo who can't wait that long.
