As this is the second time I might complain to a store today I'm starting to wonder whether I'm just a misery guts and need to get a grip.

Just been to Sainsburys with ds, on the way out caught the tail end of a conversation between a Sainsburys employee and the two regular security guards.

Sainsburys employee says to security guard "she's just a fucking bitch mates so I'm just telling you before anything happens", loudly enough for me to clearly hear.

I wouldn't speak like at at work and I'm not dealing with the public and don't really want to hear it when I'm doing my shopping.

I'm not even bothered ds was with me as I'm sure he will hear a lot worse but I just think it's so inappropriate.

Get over myself or complain?

I don't think I'd be that bothered in all honesty but I think it's too much of an issue to say that you're BU. So, non-issue for me, but not U for you (does that make sense?!).
What was the other store / reason for complaint?

Salazar · 19/05/2014 17:34

I wouldn't complain. It didn't effect your shopping really.

I feel very sorry for minimum wage workers. I did it for years and it's such hard work. I wouldn't want to get her in trouble and possibly risk her job when it seems that she is already having problems with other staff there.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/05/2014 17:34

Complain at the time only scenario

Not after

hiddenhome · 19/05/2014 17:36

Down the pub with mates......fine

Whilst doing your job around the public......definitely not fine.

Pyjamaramadrama · 19/05/2014 17:36

I've nearly boycott the shop before because of their weird staff.

I once had a very over familiar cashier who was blatantly flirting and repeatedly saying 'beautiful, darling and gorgeous', and commenting on every frigging item he scanned and female worker standing next to him laughing her head off.

Then there was the woman at the kiosk who greeted me by yelling "don't put your basket on the sweets", even though I had no intentions of doing so.

For such an overpriced supermarket they're seriously lacking.

The other thing was over m&s long story non cancelling half an order not delivering the other half.

It was a male employee btw not that it makes a difference but just as someone assumed female. Sounded like he was warning the security guard off a potential girlfriend or something.

not sure. Someone on the check out would be different but this is someone you don't have to interact with and whose conversation you overheard.

he shouldn't be doing it but I can't get too worked up about it.

Seriously move on. It doesn't affect you just forget it.

tobysmum77 · 19/05/2014 17:41

I think yabu. I would swear at work although admittedly not in front of customers

SpringBreaker · 19/05/2014 17:41

I wouldnt have been eavesdropping on other peoples conversations..

Pyjamaramadrama · 19/05/2014 17:43

Yeah that's fair enough. If people think leave it I will as don't want to make it my business to get somebody into trouble.

I hate the word bitch, derogatory word for women and all that.

OP posts:
Lara2 · 19/05/2014 17:45

Not appropriate at all. I think it's still ok to complain, even after the event. I don't want to hear staff in shops (or anywhere else) swearing - if I heard it a lot in a particular place it would make me want to shop elsewhere.
I've worked in a supermarket and whilst some people assumed I was completely thick because I stacked shelves etc and were incredibly patronising, I knew it wasn't OK to swear at work.

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/05/2014 17:47

I wouldn't complain.

I don't like that sort of talk, so I would just move away.

If you feel very strongly, perhaps you should make a comment in their earshot....

Pyjamaramadrama · 19/05/2014 17:47

Yeah I think there's swearing and there's swearing iyswim.

Saying "that bloody till annoy me", saying even "that fucking till annoys me", calling someone a fucking bitch, a bit much?

Coffee tea this just literally happened, I don't need to get over it, it offended my ears but I won't be losing any sleep over it.

Going by responses I won't complain just forget it and shop in Asda/Aldi where the staff are nicer.

Pyjamaramadrama · 19/05/2014 17:48

And I wasn't eavesdropping I was walking out of the shop and walked past them, you couldn't not hear it he was being so loud.

StarGazeyPond · 19/05/2014 17:52

Oh FGS shop somewhere else !!

Maybe she was a violent shoplifter and the guards needed to be warned.......very strongly!!

MrsBobDobalina · 19/05/2014 17:52

I complained once to John Lewis about their assistants' sweary conversation in the toy department. Didn't get so much as PFO.

Pyjamaramadrama · 19/05/2014 17:55

Quite possible stargazeypond, still but much though.

The verdict is get over myself on this one, so I will!

wobblyweebles · 19/05/2014 18:03

I'd probably assume that someone with that little understanding of how you behave at work would fairly soon have it brought to his attention by the store management.

Although... maybe not, thinking about my experience of customer service in Sainsburys.

Just let it go.
Is it really that much of a big deal??

parentalunit · 19/05/2014 18:50

Did you say anything to the person who spewed those choice words? I think that would be the way to handle it. "excuse me, there are children here, please watch your vocabulary" then go on.

SuperSophie · 19/05/2014 18:59

It's 2014.

The world went to Hell in a handcart a long time ago.

We'll never get it back.

Don't worry.

Be (as) happy (as you can).

Pyjamaramadrama · 19/05/2014 19:02

No I didn't say anything I just did a bit of a double glance and thought hmm that's nice, then went outside loaded the car went to put my trolley back to get my pound back and another employee started manhandling the trolley off me to 'help me' and no I wasn't struggling in any way and I just said I'm ok thank you.

All just irritated me.
