Push bikes in parks

i love taking my dc to the park and more often than not recently there have been other children cycling on the foot paths or even within the playground area.

aibu to feel aggrieved by this as mine are only small, and it seems the other children don't seem to look where they cycle and parents are often not there or don't give a shit

what are your thoughts on this

well parks are fine for kids on bikes as long as they are considerate of other people. Parks are there to be enjoyed and as long as people are respectful of others then I see no problem with push bikes in parks.

Of course, there are always people who don't give a crap about anything else than their own fun, be it in a park, on the road etc etc.

Well my DD just learnt to ride her bike. It is much easier to learn on a hard surface so she has been practising going up and down the pathway. She does watch out for people and it isn't a madly busy park.

So I think YABU. Walk on the grass if you are so concerned.

My son is 4 and I take him on his push bike to our local park, I think hes too little to learn to ride on the footpaths next to the road so I use the space provided for children.

It can be annoying yes, but I think all children are entitled to use the parks.

Pedestrians trump bike. In the actual playground I wouldn't expect a little one to be squashed by a child on a bike, but they should be able to ride somewhere. Good lesson to always be a bit aware when on foot.

the worst was i have a playground for small children which is fenced off and they where riding in laps round it with no consideration for the small children in it. The mums where looking on and i had to be extra vigilant so that my dc weren't hit.

that's not on in my book

Yabu, it's for everyone to enjoy.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 19/05/2014 16:09

I agree that in the fenced off area for the little ones then no, you shouldn't have people riding round on bikes when there is plenty of other space but then I would politely say to them this is an area for small children so could they please take their bikes out.

mrsbucketxx · 19/05/2014 16:13

Where else do you learn to ride a bike?

Public parks are just that - parks, public, for the use of Smile

But no, not inside the little areas that are fenced off for kids cos dog owners can't be trusted!

mrsbucketxx · 19/05/2014 16:20

i really don't mind in the bigger bit but the playground for the little ones riled me.

dd was trying to get across from one bit to another and i was constantly holding her back so she wasn't hit

So just politely ask them to go outside - I bet as you go in the gate anyway there is a sign that says no bikes...there is in our local park.

mrsbucketxx · 19/05/2014 16:27

i haven't noticed ill look next time.

then maybe ill be brave enough to say something.
