World Cup Final or tickets we have booked!?

DH is a football fan, but not overly. He'll watch occasionally but we don't have to plan our lives around it iyswim...

We booked tickets to a show with a lot of friends a year ago...

Turns out it will be World Cup final.

DH said he won't be coming and I need to find someone else to go with...(though 8 tickets so maybe a few more drop outs given the date?!)

AIBU to be pissed off with him?

Depends who's in the final and what the tickets are for.

curiousgeorgie · 17/05/2014 21:12

Well, if its England I wouldn't blame him... But lets be honest, that's pretty unlikely!

It's tickets for a famous comedian. And we booked them a long time ago!

YANBU for being a bit pissed off but I'd just leave him to it, it'll be awful if he goes with you and spends the night sulking over the football. Plus, if football is his interest then it's a pretty big thing for him to miss out on. Take someone else.

missmysexybody · 17/05/2014 21:15

YABU. Let him do what he wants to do that evening. If you insist or force him to be somewhere he doesn't want to be, then that makes you controlling. Sorry but it does. Find a friend to go with.

Annunziata · 17/05/2014 21:17

I am confused, you have tickets for the World Cup final you didn't know about? Confused

curiousgeorgie · 17/05/2014 21:17

No!! Definitely not Grin

He wants to watch it on TV!!

There'd be nothing worse than sitting in the theatre with him surreptitiously checking the score all night, ducking out at the interval to find a pub to watch a bit etc.

Also I'd get the money from the others ASAP then they have to find their own substitutes if they decide to watch the football.

Is it actually on at the same time? Does the time difference help at all?

curiousgeorgie · 17/05/2014 21:18

Apparently it's about 8pm...

Oh Grin Okay, I understand. Yes, I think YABU, it's a big thing. But he must make it up to you!

TucsonGirl · 17/05/2014 21:24

If he isn't a football fan why is he so bothered about the WC final, obviously if England get to the final thats another kettle of fish entirely and I imagine they'll be a lot of show tickets getting unused that evening.

DoJo · 17/05/2014 21:26

I don't think YABU to be pissed off, but there's not much you can do if he really doesn't want to go - perhaps he can plan a night together to make up for it to appease you...?

TucsonGirl · 17/05/2014 21:27

I'm fairly sure the date and time of the final has been set in stone for years btw.

AreYouFeelingLucky · 17/05/2014 21:28

I would not go and watch anything while the final is on.

To be fair to your H, he won't have known that it would clash when you booked, and at least he has been straight up with you now.

curiousgeorgie · 17/05/2014 21:36

But TusconGirl is right.. My DD2's birthday party is the end of june and he made me plan it around the football...

Bit 50 quid tickets are fine Wink

If England are playing, I personally wouldn't travel anyway, there will be a massive explosion of mania or fury at some point in the evening....

unlikely, I suppose, but it is the biggest football match in 4 years, and many non football fans will be engaged, so YANBU, but DH is also NBU, it is a no win situation.
