To think that if you're braking every 5 seconds you're probably too close!

Following a car home who was braking constantly as they were clearly too close to the car in front. I wouldn't care but it wasn't like the car in front was going too slowly (IMO) or that he didn't have he opportunity to overtake (he did!)

One of my absolute pet hates, along with drivers who can't use their indicators and motorcyclists who weave in and out.

Can you tell my journey home was stressful?!

No YANBU one of my pet hates too.

gordyslovesheep · 15/05/2014 17:31

ya soooo nbu - I hate this - causes lots of issues on motorways

just keep your distance ffs

youmakemydreams · 15/05/2014 17:31

YANBU at all. This is my big whinge and totally irrational because it affects me not but it really bugs me when drivers do that.

Winnie101 · 15/05/2014 17:33

Yanbu, I really hate this when driving. It's very dangerous and unnecessary. I agree with Gordy, just keep your distance ffs!

We're allowed to weave in an out, it's called filtering and it's in the Highway Code.

Agree with you about the braking, though!

Sparklingbrook · 15/05/2014 17:38

I think WRT motorcyclists they are allowed to weave in and out but presumably not in a dangerous fashion IYKWIM.
I give motorbikes a huge wide berth generally.

The braking would drive me mad too.

Subtle - this motorcyclist was dangerous. There weren't suitable gaps and there was traffic coming the other way. He'd rev like mad, then brake and try to squeeze into a gap which clearly wasn't big enough.

Accepting that your chap (or lady) might indeed have been riding like a knob, it's also possible that normal filtering can look quite risky to car drivers. I'll filter in the face of oncoming traffic, I'd much rather be in the bus lane like I was allowed to in London, but the council here hasn't allowed it. I'm making a constant judgement as to whether there's room and whether there's a space to nip back into if I need it.

Some drivers hate us filtering, but it's one of the main reasons for riding a bike in town.

Aspiringhuman · 16/05/2014 07:34

Yabu, there's no probably about it.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2014 07:35

I think you must be brave subtle and quite assertive. That gap that to you looks big enough to slot back in can quickly be filled by a motorist not having a clue.
