Marks and Sparks bra strap length?

Am large of nork with a short body and have never been able to wear m&s bras as straps were always too long to provide support even on the shortest adjustment. Have recently mums netted dd for bra size and she is approx 32dd and similarly short bodied like me. Bought her 2 different styles from m&s and they fit great around the back and in the cup but on the longest adjustment the straps are way too short, I mean unwearable, have to take them back. Wtaf? Who exactly are they making bras to fit? Hmm

The bras have not changed size. If they had, then 32 inch back would have suddenly become 4 inches flappier and they have not.

I have bought all my bras from Bravissimo for the last 20years.

I buy from and get fitted at bravissimo too. The way they fit matches the no inches method -I'm a 30" underbust in a 30 band.

The adding inches thing dates back to when bras were made from non stretchy materials so a heck of a long time. A 30 band now tends to measure about 26" unstretched... But they don't do much unstretched!

I'm a 37inches under bust and wear size 14. But as someone else pointed out, i am quite flat chested (36d - which is actually small for my size - used to wear 40a before a bra intervention thread and Rigby and Peller sorted me out) so it doesn't necessarily correlate.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/05/2014 15:29

For comparison purposes I've tested marks and Spencer and other shops that still fit using the old method. They try to stick me in a 36f. I could have tied the back in a knot it was so loose. Bravissimo fitted I'm a 30hh

Oh goody, a bra intervention thread!

Rainbunny · 15/05/2014 17:05

A 32 back is a size 14? What?? I must be huge then, I'm 5'4", weigh 108 lbs and I'm a 32 dd/E. I'm confused!

Rainbunny · 15/05/2014 17:07

Oh, never mind, reading the other posts apparently there is an old measuring method and a new one. Interesting and confusing.

HighwayDragon · 15/05/2014 17:13

I'm a 32D and size 12/14. I was wearing a 36A til the last bra intervention thread got me to measure myself properly, my norks have never been so happy and I'm wearing a D

Nocomet · 15/05/2014 17:21

I don't know, but my totally in proportion DD2 has M&S bras almost as long as the straps will go, there is no margin.

Nohootingchickenssleeping · 16/05/2014 13:50

When I buy bikinis I find it nearly impossible to find something to fit. 6/8 hips but need a size 12 top for cup size. But then the back is too big.

Just found out M&S do gorgeous matching seperates in actual, real cup sizes. Am in heaven!

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 16/05/2014 14:55

im not even an adult size, i'm an age size. i'm 4'8'' and tiny. the only "adult" sized things I can wear are bras, undies & shoes!!

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 16/05/2014 14:55

which i found out last night after ordering a load of clothes at size 8 and having to measure myself.

oldiebutnctoday · 16/05/2014 16:19

Nohooting - try John Lewis, debenhams, bravissimo and fig leaves.com for bra sized bikinis! There are loads!

Thank you. I'm on a tight budget and the last one I bought fell apart after one wash (like to wash them after swimming) so I need a good one.
